Description
This position both underwriting guidance and oversight of our national excess construction segment and individual production responsibilities. Working in conjunction with the CUO and Head-Excess Casualty, the position assists in maintaining underwriting integrity contributing to growth opportunities. Markets, underwrites and provides products and services for highly technical construction risks and risks requiring special handling or unusual coverages. As segment leader, the candidate has both direct and indirect team management skills.
• Responsible for referrals & guidance for excess construction (practice & project risks) across multiple offices with a focus on wholesale and retail non-admitted distribution points.
• Contributes to underwriting guidelines in conjunction with actuarial, claims & CUO optimizing portfolio towards profitable outcomes.
• Works in conjunction with GRS marketing & profit center leadership, develops business & marketing plans for wholesale and retail field staff.
• Manages, both directly and indirectly, other underwriters and/or underwriting staff.
• Establishes and maintains broker strategy within the framework of GRS Excess Casualty plans. Builds relationships to facilitate marketing & production of wholesale and retail non-admitted excess construction business
• Contributes to budget management including reporting and tracking excess construction production.
• Underwrites new and renewal business of complex accounts.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent training plus at least 5+ years of relevant and progressively more responsible production underwriting experience. Prior experience managing direct reports or a team is preferred. Requires an advanced knowledge of underwriting concepts, practices, procedures and techniques, including, but not limited to coverage issues, product lines, marketing, computers and product competition within the marketplace. Advanced knowledge of a construction risk transfer and related technical topics. The ability to effectively interact with all stakeholders (brokers, employees, claims, actuarial & finance) is preferred. Strong verbal and written communications, and organizational skills. Strong negotiation, analytical and decision making skills also required. Prior experience with wholesale distribution channel is desirable.
