POSITION SUMMARY:
The Risk Management Advisor (“Advisor”) reports to and works with limited direction from the Manager of Operational Risk Management and will be responsible for coordinating the Bank’s efforts to conduct or facilitate risk management activities across several different operational risk disciplines including Model Risk Management, Third Party Risk Management, Corporate Insurance, Business Continuity and Information Security. Operational risks will be analyzed and monitored across a broad group of units within the Bank, including the nine (9) Strategic Planning Units (SPUs) and numerous supporting departments, systems and processes that aid in the development and ongoing support of the Bank’s customers, products and services.
DUTIES:
• Identify, analyze and advise on operational risk trends and interdependencies within and across departments and units
• Advise on and support operational risk activities in departments and units
• Consult with SPUs, Strategic Planning Office and risk owners on emerging risks, advise on monitoring emerging risks and potential impacts
• Prepare risk management presentations at the direction of department managers
• Manage updates to key operational risk policy inventory
• Assist with regulatory exam information requests
• Conduct critical process reviews and control assessments and advise process owners on ways to improve
• Complete operational risk-focused new product reviews and advise on necessary controls to implement to manage risks to within acceptable tolerance levels
• Conduct root cause analysis of loss events, subject to loss appetite thresholds, to identify control failures following an operational loss event and summarize to management along with recommendations for future enhancements
• Conduct operational risk assessments, including the Payment Systems risk assessment
• Consult risk and process owners on ways to track levels of risk through the use of metrics and other reporting
• Track and coordinate operational risk activities and reporting across numerous departments using the Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) tool
• Monitor and report key risk indicators related to operational risk
• Develop and conduct training as necessary across operational risk disciplines for business units
• Provide governance and oversight for select operational risk policies
• Compile standard and adhoc risk reporting as requested
• Perform special projects as assigned by the Operational Risk Manager
WORK HOURS: Monday-Friday (8:00am-5:00pm)
WORK EXPERIENCE:
• 5 to 10 years’ experience in a professional environment required
• General banking/financial services or risk management experience preferred
EDUCATION:
• Degree in business finance or communications preferred
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE:
• Solid understanding of enterprise risk and appetite
• Ability to identify important issues and escalate them appropriately to senior management along with recommendations for how to mitigate risks
• Extensive experience with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Visio
• Ability to analyze data, establish trends and insights, and summarize to a variety of audiences including senior management
• Familiarity with databases and ability to use query tools for analysis and report creation
• Familiarity with monitoring and reporting on risks and mitigating controls with high aptitude for learning this and other risk management activities
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
• Excellent reading, writing and speaking skills
• Strong ability to communicate across all levels of the organization
• Ability to communicate technical information/concepts to non-technical audiences
