Description
The primary responsibility of the Senior ETL Developer is to lead the design, development, and execution of the Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) processes for a custom Coordination of Benefits (COB) application. This includes creating innovative processes which are efficient and secure within a production environment consisting of approximately 10 billion rows within 150 databases with a footprint of 8TB of storage.
Primary responsibilities may include:
• Provide technical leadership, guidance and direction to other team members.
• Provide leadership during the development and enhancement of the COB application. This includes working collaboratively with internal teams.
• Responsible for handling the COB application data in a manner which is efficient, accurate, and secure.
• Recommends and develops ETL technical specifications.
• Integrates ETL development with existing codebase to maximize object reuse.
• Creates and documents unit test plans for ETL and data integration processes.
• Works closely with data analysts (QA) to thoroughly test the COB application.
• Documents ETL processes within the COB application.
• Performs tasks required to conform to the company’s configuration management and software release processes.
• Monitors and administers ETL jobs and processes to verify execution and assess performance.
• Works with internal teams and external partners to quickly identify and resolve data integration and ETL job issues.
• Regular attendance in daily stand-up status meetings.
• Availability for scheduled after-hours deployments and unplanned issue resolution. Planned deployments typically occur once a month on Thursday nights.
• Time allocation of the job is estimated as follows:
◦ New Feature Coding – 50%
◦ Existing Product Maintenance – 20%
◦ Performance Testing – 10%
◦ Production Monitoring – 10%
◦ Unit Testing – 10%
• Minimum five years’ experience
◦ designing, developing, testing, and implementing ETL solutions using enterprise ETL tools (experience with SSIS is required).
◦ developing with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or later.
• Minimum two years’ experience
◦ working with high volume data exchange and transaction processing systems, preferably in a custom software development environment.
◦ integrating large (400M+ rows) structured and unstructured data in multiple formats, character sets, and delivery methods.
• Minimum one year experience in 5+ TB data environment.
• Experience with SDLC and iterative development processes.
• Expert-level SQL development skills is required.
• Strong understanding of SDLC and Agile Methodologies and ETL best practices.
• Expertise and hands-on experience with design and development best practices.
• Expertise in working with technical and business teams to extract and document data integration/exchange requirements.
