Role Value Proposition:
MetLife’s US Actuarial Development Program (ADP) focuses on developing future leaders of MetLife who will create innovative business solutions based on actuarial principles and contribute to the success of the company. As part of the professional development process, participants will rotate to new assignments approximately every two years, on average, within core areas of MetLife’s business. This will enable participants to become well-rounded actuaries and knowledgeable in several areas of actuarial practice. Such areas may include product development, valuation, finance, investments, etc. Participants will also prepare for and take actuarial exams administered through the Society of Actuaries (SOA) and work towards becoming qualified as Fellows of the SOA (FSA designation).
Key Responsibilities
Participates in the rate-making, reserving, and risk evaluation functions. Counsels management and advises on underwriting functions that require actuarial or mathematical techniques to determine appropriate courses of action. Assures preparation and interpretation of data in support of rate filings with various state insurance departments. Determines rates of mortality, sickness, retirement, etc. based on analysis of statistical data. Assists in design of insurance plans, calculation of premiums, determining cash reserves and premium rates necessary to ensure sufficient funds for benefits payment and profitability.
Supervisor Responsibilities:
None. May provide guidance to junior staff members or function as a project leader.
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
• Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics or a related field.
• GPA of 3.3 or higher.
• Committed to completing the Society of Actuaries' education system courses necessary to attain FSA designation.
• Obtained ASA designation.
• Strong computer skills - must know VBA.
• Strong communication skills.
• 2+ yrs. related actuarial business experience For the pre-ASA job description, say: prior actuarial internship or business experience a plus
