Overall Purpose of Job:
Seated within MUFG’s Portfolio Management Group, the Analyst will support the broader leveraged finance effort at MUFG, which is dedicated to serving the strategic and financial needs of primarily non-investment grade companies ranging from middle-market/mid-corporate entities through the behemoth transactions involving household name companies and top-tier sponsors. Transaction types include underwriting leveraged buyouts, acquisition financings and refinancing.
The central focus of the Analyst’s role in supporting the leveraged finance business will be to assess risk factors associated with prospective clients, obtain internal credit approvals and to determine the appropriate rating based on established policies and guidelines. In addition, the Analyst will provide continuous monitoring oversight of a select group of portfolio names, monitoring for potential upgrading, downgrading and credit deterioration.
Responsibilities:
• Provide support in execution of leveraged finance transactions for financial sponsors and corporate clients
• Execute under the supervision of a Director/Vice President all aspects of a financing, including due diligence process, preparation of detailed credit analyses and required credit application according to policy, evaluation of regulatory and industry risk, historical operating performance, projected operating performance and capital structure.
• Manage transaction closing process including review of legal documentation, regulatory/KYC requirements, and deal close.
• Monitor a select portfolio of transactions as they close on a ‘cradle-to-grave’ approach, adhering to internal policies/procedures and regulatory requirements (i.e. CEA, AOA, FSA, OCC and FRB) in preparing quarterly credit risk reporting materials and annual reviews.
Advanced Credit/Underwriting Solutions:
• Work within deal team environment (with relationship management, capital markets) supporting Directors and MDs in the development and analysis of financing structures/strategies.
• Prescreen proposed transactions to identify critical structural issues and risks, balancing institutional policy with sponsor and corporate business development needs.
• Interface with private equity sponsors and sponsor-owned companies on a regular basis.
• Evaluate and establish appropriate ratings for transactions and correlate appropriate exposure level with regard to exposure on both a transaction and group level Ensure compliance with policy and regulatory requirements (i.e. CEA, AOA, FSA, OCC and FRB).
Qualifications
Requirements:
• Bachelor degree, a CFA is an asset.
• Solid credit and analytical background, including at least 1 year of experience in a related role.
• Modeling skills required.
• Completion of formal credit-training program at a money center bank is preferred.
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
• Strong financial spreading/modeling skills required.
• Good computer skills in Microsoft Word, Access and Excel.
• Ability to function independently and as part of a small deal team
• The successful candidate should also possess an inquisitive nature, strong writing skills, willingness to work flexible hours when needed and a desire to learn more about the industries MUFG serves.
• Organizational and time management skills to efficiently handle multiple tasks with changing priorities
