CNO Financial Group is hiring for a Lead Underwriting Associate (UA) in our Chicago office. This individual will act as the subject matter expert for underwriting associate job functionality and will participate in department related projects, process-improvements, and reporting as dictated by the needs of the business in addition to day-to-day underwriting associate activities.
This individual will report to the Manager of Underwriting and will have exposure to life/health business and both fully underwritten and simplified issue products.
Key Responsibilities:
• Process UA day to day business needs as required
• Serve as the subject matter expert for UA team responsibilities, business processes, vendor websites and technology initiatives
• Act as primary escalation contact within underwriting associate team
• Coordinate and conduct training for the UA area as needed (onboarding/new hire in addition to communicating and documenting procedure changes to existing team)
• Provide workflow support though either directly stepping in to assist/cover team work or by assisting with workflow resource coordination
• Resolve issues on high-profile and/or complex cases
• Support UW management with production reporting as needed
• Serve as lead on process improvement efforts within UA team – identify opportunities, recommend changes, and assist in creating a strategy for implementation
• Interface with the field (at both agent and leadership levels) and with individuals from an associate role up to a VP

• Interest in being a “jack of all trades” – someone eager to take on a myriad of responsibilities within underwriting to support immediate goals and strategic objectives
• Willingness to participate in a production-oriented environment as dictated by the needs of the business
• Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities in order to support department needs
• MS Office Proficiency – working Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint knowledge is a must
• Excellent written and verbal communication
Requirements for Success:
• Bachelor’s Degree required
• Strong existing knowledge of insurance products and procedures or proven interest and commitment to broadening insurance experience - job history, certifications, etc.
