Overview
Responsible for activities surrounding Merchant Accounting, Settlement and Merchant Operations Systems. Supervise the day to day accounting function for the business unit. Researches settlement and system issues, understands internal and processor systems, and ensures proper card processor system maintenance. Knowledge of Card Brand regulations and provide monthly and quarterly reporting, as required. Provide Merchant Services management with key analytics and financial reporting in regards to vendor comparisons, portfolio pricing decisions and business unit performance.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties
• Manage and direct Merchant Services accounting staff in the completion of daily, monthly, quarterly and year-end settlement and accounting functions for the business unit. Ensures accounting conforms to established internal policies and appropriate accounting standards. Ensures proper journal entries are made on a timely basis. Ensures all accounts are reconciled and analyzed on a timely basis. Reviews account analyses for applicable balance sheet accounts, ensuring all activity is documented and unidentified or incorrect items are properly cleared. Makes recommendations to management for the treatment of reconciling items. Sign off as Initial Approver on all accounts. Compiles reconcilement results and reports results to management. Prepare and analyze financial information for the business unit. Monthly financial performance is recorded accurately, with variances analyzed and explained. Daily and monthly settlement reporting is accurate. Monthly third party invoices have been accounted for properly. Work with Merchant management to provide financial reporting and analytics as required. Actively participate in decisions having a financial impact. Maintains and updates documentation of internal controls over financial reporting as required by Sarbanes Oxley Section 04 and the reporting of same. Ensures that documentation related to areas of responsibility is current and accurate. Documents new procedures and controls, as necessary. Ensures that control procedures are being performed as documented. Prepares selected financial analyses as audit trail supporting amounts in financial records. Assists internal and external auditors, banking regulators or Fulton Financial Corporation and Affiliate accountants with questions and additional information requests, as necessary for their review and following up on suggested changes by these parties. Ensures that accounting policies and procedures are in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Security and Exchange Commission and other regulatory requirements.
• Develops, documents and maintains a working knowledge of the business purpose of Merchant Card Services. Understands and assists with efficiency of Merchant Operations systems. Developing an in depth knowledge of processor systems and solid working knowledge of Card Brand rules and regulations. Monitoring and disseminating processor system updates and announcements that would impact portfolio, settlement or vendor systems in use. In conjunction with the Vice President of Product and Portfolio management provide input, financial analysis and advice for portfolio pricing changes. Escalating and following internal and external systems issues to resolution and keeping appropriate employees abreast of status. Assists with delivering the customer experience. Performing escalated transaction and settlement research. Assisting with processes and procedure documentation, emergency preparedness plan and workflow analysis. Recommending and implementing improvements to current processes and procedures. Performs additional duties as required.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor Degree or the Equivalent Experience or equivalent experience. Specialty: Accounting, business administration, or a related field. (Required)
Experience
7 or more years Accounting. (Required)
5 or more years Analytical and supervisory work in an accounting field, preferably within a financial institution. (Required)
