Group Description:
ACE (Automated Cashflow Entry) exclusively manages all cash movements, controls asset movements, currency purchases, and account opening / maintenance at AB. Our team enhances and supports ACE. Using .Net technologies (front end and middle tier application server) with MS SQL Server as the database, ACE:
• Interfaces directly, often in real time, with more than a dozen critical production applications supporting such diverse business needs as CRM, compliance in transfer of foreign assets, and trading.
• Is used by 1500+ global users, 24-hrs a day / 6 days a week.
• Completes well over a million unique transactions annually.
Responsibilities
We are seeking a Nashville based developer to join the Equity Investment Management Technology department. The employee will work closely with Application architects to deliver new solutions within the existing application framework; to consolidate and upgrade existing functions and to provide production support to a large user population.
The application is a moderately high volume transactional system. We process roughly 80 different workflows and transaction types. The types of transactions are varied, some are informational in nature, some move/post cash into and out of accounts, and some move/trade securities. This means that our developer needs to have some awareness of the risks involved in a given code change, and more importantly, how to mitigate these risks, as one mistake could have a hefty financial consequence.
As a team, we operate on very quick release schedule. The business is always changing, and this team prides itself on being able to keep up with new demands. In general, we release about once every 3 weeks on average, and never go more than 5 weeks without a release. Coding fluency of the candidate therefore is a serious consideration in the candidate’s ultimate success.
We work directly with the business and partner with them on developing business processes to address their issues. Our development is based on an evolving understanding of what the business needs, proven through iterations, each of which brings us closer to the ideal solution. The business has entrusted the team with significant discretion in how to solve their business challenges. The candidate will be highly involved in the process and once trained, will be expected to listen, learn and opine after consideration about the best approach to accomplish the business’ task.
Describe the applications and business or enterprise functions the role supports:
ACE (Automated Cashflow Entry) started as an application that exclusively managed all cash movements at AB and has grown into a system that controls asset movements, currency purchases, and account maintenance. SNAP (Simplified New Account Process) has a win forms and a web component and is the system used to manage account lifecycle transitions (Account Openings, Asset Mix Changes, and Account Closings) at AB.
The employee’s day to day activities will include:
• Hands-on C# .NET programming and design both front-end and server-side
• Hands-on database development including schema design and business logic implementation,
• Close collaboration with / supervision by senior developers to ensure all code is consistent with architectural standards and design,
• Cross-functional efforts with other development teams (Trading, Portfolio Management, Sales, Compliance, and Operations) in support of enterprise efforts.
• Collaboration with business users to refine application requirements, participating in interim deliverables such as prototype demonstrations, and support of business user testing.
• Hands-on production support, assisting the business in solving key deadline-driven issues.
What is the professional development value of this role?
Because the application supports business activity – starting from the point when a client makes a request through the transaction lifecycle until it posts – working on this team is a unique opportunity to learn all aspects of the asset management business, from Sales through Portfolio Management all the way to Operational procedures in both in-house and externally custodied accounts.
