Overview
Data Quality Issue and Root Cause Analyst (located in White Plains Office)
This role will assist the data quality manager and governance team in the support of a comprehensive data quality framework. The Root Cause Analyst position is within the Governance line of defense supporting enterprise data as well as top tier financial data that are used for regulatory and risk reporting at the Bank. The primary objective of the role includes issue management analysis (deep-dive) to help prioritize data issues and any necessary improvements of the Bank’s data assets.
The expectation is that the individual will be able to work across functions and LOBs staff (technical and business) to ensure that there is an effective process in place to enable resources to produce tangible progress in reduction of Data Quality Issues. The individual will need to further develop capabilities on tracking the resolution of the issues, educate and onboard new LOBs for tracking Data Quality issues to meet firm-wide standards and the data governance and quality policies.
Role also requires a results and driven data associate to work on data quality and partner with subject matter experts to elicit data detailed quality rule requirements and support all phases of development and validation, testing and documentation. Candidate should be able to analyze (profiling) data, work with subject matter experts and identify any functional gaps in order to continuously improve upon data quality and fit for use standards established by the Enterprise Data Governance program which supports the Americas division.
The role will require close connection with the Data Quality Manager and Chief Data Officer on data issues across the firm and aligned with Banking domains i.e. Capital Markets, Corporate Banking, Finance, Risk etc.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead Root Cause analysis across domains of data and train stakeholders
• Communicate, verbally and in writing, the results of investigation activities and findings with stakeholders as identified
• Document and communicate recommendations for improvement
• Creating and deploying training for data stewards and local data officers
• Execute Quality Assurance on FW DQ issues
• Ensure Data Quality and Issue Management documentation is current and updated as new areas are on-boarded
• Provide DQ Issue Management application support to the user community
• Produce Data Quality issue reporting and trends
• Enhancement testing for issue capture and reporting
Data Quality Requirements & Business Analysis
Analyzing data, work flows or technical specification requirements for reports and any data migration plans and consolidation efforts to data marts within the centralized data warehouse - detecting anomalies in order to recommend data quality validation checks based upon root causes and prevention of data integrity issues.
Work with standardize reference data in data quality domain and manage and deploy data quality rules on reference data key terms
Create Data Quality Rules involving dimensions i.e. Completeness, Accuracy, Validity, and referential integrity
Eliciting and preparing documentation for data quality rule requirements and packaging for development
Develops comprehensive test plans and execution of plans
Issue Management – Data Quality Exceptions
• Support all facets of production ready data quality rules, exceptions, issue management and reporting
• Highly proactive in monitoring issues and exceptions with data owners and subject matter experts
• Perform data quality root cause analysis on these functional gaps, conduct and organize sessions with SME’s to discuss or brainstorm these gaps and present these functional gaps in a summarized manner to Domain SME’s
• Focus and support all aspects of data quality issue management and improvement, exception handling and alerting process
• Aids in reporting issues impacting data quality, documenting, tracking, root cause capture for file delivery and data quality impacting issues
• Coordinate solutions and fixes with data quality application technology support through change management, service requests, testing and liaise with technology support from business and subsidiaries to track and resolve issues
Training and Documentation
• Work with data quality manager to promoting data quality best practices, training and checks, templates and validations with data owners
• Create documentation, perform knowledge transfer and cross training for stakeholders to develop new data quality rules as well as help data stewards tasked with remediating data quality issues
-Produce and distribute daily/weekly team status reports or scorecards as well as contribute to project status reporting depending on the undertaking at and assist with any management reporting
Qualifications
Bachelor degree or equivalent work experience (3-5 yrs) and excellent prioritization, planning, organization and time management skills. Proven ability to work and influence across diverse groups, build consensus and execute the agreed remedies. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral and the ability to structure communication to various different levels (e.g. seniority) and types (e.g. Technology, Operations, Finance) of audience. Ability to quickly understand a complex matrix of systems across the infrastructure and their interdependencies and relationships.
Deep-dive analysis of the issues, root causes related data to and present to findings to the data owners and stakeholders focus on and prioritize efforts that will address and remediate their data quality issues. Root cause analysis and other diagnostic documentation's to identify inherent risks in the data, processing, lineage and propose / implement controls.
Issue remediation efforts require project tracking for future implementation target dates over time. Researching and documenting data elements (terms) used in current or new reports and any transformational activities as the data migrates and is further processed through SQL, ETL, stored procedures to understand the impact of data issues on reports.
Work with the data owners to support data quality initiatives and become a subject matter expert in assigned domains in order to understand key data elements and improve data quality. Making comprehensive data quality validations at the source to ensure that issues do not reoccur. Eliciting and preparing documentation for data quality rule requirements and packaging for development through the normal software development life cycle (SDLC) and any testing activities.
Data Detective - willing to roll up sleeves and dive into data as it is used, has dependencies upon reference data lists and ultimately transforms to front end reports for business consumption via data marts and relational schemas
Documentation - document data quality requirements, project plans, test plans and comprehensive SDLC and determines impact assessments, functional specifications, flow charts (Visio)

Soft and Other Skills

-Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
-Able to work as individual contributor role or manage Data Quality projects consisting of 1-2 employees and data governance team as a data steward
-Team player and able to fill in gaps, learn about data governance program, policies and tenants
-Able to work with large data in excel and suggest process enhancement ideas for some of the stakeholders working in Excel at the business unit level.
-Presentation skills for explaining data, metrics and results in PowerPoint
-Excel (advanced if possible), MS Office Applications and Visio, (SQL or knowledge of advanced formulas & pivot tables in excel would be very positive)
-Project management experience is a plus as well as Six Sigma or process improvement planning
-Expertise in Financial products, reconciliation, reporting, analysis processes is required and experience in Finance, Accounting or Finance Operations is preferred
