National Insurance Pricing is seeking an Actuary who will be responsible for providing pricing support to the Public Entity and Healthcare business segments within the NI Specialty segment. This position also supports new product & coverage pricing across all of NIS, as well as creation & maintenance of specialized vertical tools, particularly for newly formed verticals such as the Life Sciences vertical launching in 2019. This candidate will be a key resource and trusted advisor to the Specialty management teams. This position will manage a team of 4-5 actuarial students and business analysts that provide account level pricing support to Public Entity, Healthcare, and Life Sciences underwriters. The role will focus on providing high quality analyses and effectively recognizing and communicating key outcomes to support profit, growth, and operational objectives for these verticals. The successful actuary will possess strong analytical and communication skills, as well as a demonstrated ability to develop creative solutions to unique and complex problems. This position may be located in either Boston or Chicago and will report to Molly Arens, FCAS, and Segment Actuary for NI Specialty.
Responsibilities:
• Provide clear and concise communication of technical actuarial work to senior level management within National Insurance
• Perform complex actuarial analyses to assist business decision making and strategy development.
• Work with underwriting to provide account level support such as loss forecasts, security calculations, rate change calculations, LPT/buyouts, pricing model support, etc.
• Provide pricing support for specialized products & coverages, as well as vertical specific pricing tools across NI Specialty, particularly for the more recently launched verticals
• Perform regular analyses on our reinsurance partners and use for financial monitoring, planning and booking.
• Collaborate with National Insurance Actuarial Reserving on planning, as well as their evaluation of Public Entity, Healthcare, & Life Sciences
• Collaborate with Casualty and Cross Lines Pricing Teams on tools used by Underwriting.
• Manage staff of business analysts and/or actuarial students
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree required
• Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) required
• Typically 0-2 years post-fellowship. Overall 5-7 years of progressively more responsible experience, including supervisory experience.
• Sound knowledge of actuarial techniques and standards, as well as business operations
• Strong communication skills; demonstrated ability to exchange ideas and convey complex information clearly and concisely, and ability to influence senior management and stakeholders
• Desire to work in a fast paced and dynamic environment, responding to business demands and a changing marketplace.
• Ability to develop creative solutions to unique and complex problems
• Ability to drive teamwork and collaboration across departments and functions
• Ability to lead and get work done through others; selects and develops staff members
• Ability to establish and build effective relationships within and outside the organization.
