Outsourcing Chief Financial Officer/Controller – Construction
Position Summary
Our St. Louis, MO. office is seeking a highly experienced financial executive to help build our growing client outsourced accounting services practice within the Construction Industry.
The Outsourcing Chief Financial Officer (CFO)/Controller will have a ground floor opportunity to build the practice as well as perform a combination of CFO/Controllership functions as part of client outsourced accounting services teams.
The incumbent is accountable for acting as and managing the designated function(s) for the client. S/he is also accountable for identifying and implementing best practices related to the service(s) provided to add value to the client. Develops full knowledge of GAAP (FASB/SFAS) and deep understanding of financial and operational aspects of Accounting. S/he will oversee and direct a team of outsourced Controllers, Senior Accountants and bookkeepers who provide the day to day accounting function for our clients. Work Activities & Accountabilities
The below functions reflect the general details of the essential work activities and accountabilities of this position and are not all inclusive. Other activities may be assigned.
• Work closely with Managing Principals to expand new client opportunities in existing relationships as well as build network to develop new relationships in the community.
• Works with client to set financial policy and is an active participant in, and driver of, the overall strategy. Leads financial administration, planning, and budgeting.
• Frequently partners with client’s leadership on operational and strategic issues as they arise, providing recommendations based on financial analysis of projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis.
• Oversees longer-term budget planning and cost management. Monitors progress of budgets and presents operational metrics.
• Ensures financial staff maintains financial record systems in accordance with appropriate principles and monitors the use of funds.
• Manages cash flow and forecasting, directing financial accounting.
• Coordinates audit activities.
• Ability to effectively and efficiently manage multiple client engagements. Builds strong client relationships and becomes a key member of client management team.
• Ability to develop key external business network and becomes service and industry thought leader.
• Leadership and problem identification. Lead lender and investor communications, including communications with insurance companies and attorneys.
• Drive capital planning, risk management, ratio and KPI analysis, and board of director interactions.
• Technical Knowledge: Maintains knowledge of client’s organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.
• Understanding of GAAP and industry related technical expertise.
Organizational Interfaces:
The Outsourcing CFO/Controller reports directly to the client and Outsourcing Principal in charge of the client. S/he regularly interacts with Managing Principals, industry Principals, service Principals, and other functional groups within CLA and at the client site. S/he supervises accounting services staff which may include CLA Outsourcing staff, client accounting services staff, or both. S/he will typically spend 90% of time on client assignments (majority at client locations). S/he is aligned with a career coach (who may or may not be the same as the direct supervisor) to help with career planning, be an advocate for the experiences needed to reach goals, navigate the firm’s resources, and share insights, expertise, and guidance to develop his/her full potential.

Minimum Required Experience, Education, and Certifications:
• Experience: Minimum ten years relative work experience as CFO, Controller, or equivalent. Consulting or outsourcing experience a plus
• Experience within the Construction industry a must
• Prior public accounting experience required
• Strong client service skills
• Education: BA/BS degree in accounting or related field required.
• Certification: Active CPA strongly preferred
