GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB
The Consultant independently assesses more complex & higher value financial risks related to LFG insurance products, determines the price at which LFG will accept the risks related to those insurance products, alters coverage plans or levels based upon risk and pricing & binds LFG in transactions for those insurance products. S/he determines whether to accept or reject a risk based upon his/her development & analysis of information regarding the customer/potential customer. This role will have a specific focus on Dental in regard to pricing, risk, and coverage levels.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Maintains knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends for assigned area(s) of responsibility, assesses the impact, and collaborates with management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future solutions.
• Champions and enhances organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives within assigned area(s) of responsibility.
• Serves as a resource to team members and applicable internal/external stakeholders on more complex assignments/projects for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
• Identifies and recommends process improvements that significantly reduce workloads or improve quality for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
• Consults/Analyze on more complex assignments and/or projects for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
• Analyzes the more complex & higher value coverage(s) sought by customers &/or potential customers to compare the data & information to determine whether LFG will accept or reject a risk.
• Develops & analyzes information &/or data including a customer (or potential customer’s) experience rating, loss-history, incident rates, severity rates, prior pricing history & actuarial reports to determine the price that LFG will accept the risks posed
• Meets with brokers and sales teams to build relationships, discuss target markets, areas of success, and potential pricing strategies to expand share in particular markets.
• Determines whether to reject a coverage request based upon his/her risk assessment.
• Analyzes and determines potential modifications in complex coverage(s) &/or coverage levels on multifaceted insurance products based upon customer's price range.
• Independently determines the price within target ranges at which LFG will accept the risk(s) associated with the more complex insurance product(s) based upon the information & data developed & analyzed on the customer.
• Binds LFG in financial transactions by committing LFG to provide insurance coverage at the determined rates.
• Analyzes financial health, performance, operations, and personnel levels of customers/potential customers to independently assess & determine whether additional safeguards or conditions may be necessary to include in pricing and risk assessment
• Negotiates benefits & pricing on non-experienced rated & experienced rated cases including large cases, with brokers & representative, using established guidelines.
• Sets price levels within wide-range of authority; including manually rated & experience rated business.
• Independently prepares and determines coverage & pricing proposals/renewals/amendments by analysis of quote requests from brokers & marketing representatives & data/information regarding the customer.
• Educates internal & external customers on pricing decisions & underwriting guidelines & to explain underwriting products, policies, procedures & the reasoning behind pricing decisions, coverage decisions & risk rejections.
• Develops strong relationships with assigned field offices.
• Compliance responsibilities include adherence to documentation & reporting expectations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's) (Minimum Required)
• 3 - 5+ Years Group underwriting Dental experience that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities of the position (Required)
• Group underwriting Life, STD, LTD experience that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities of the position (Preferred)
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
• Travel Type: National Domestic
• Travel Amount: up to 10%
