The AVP Underwriting Business Process & Technology will lead process and technology initiatives for our Commercial Lines group. This includes project identification, budget administration, business requirements definition, and OCM /Training design and oversight. The AVP will interface with actuarial leadership, product executives, operations, billing and collections, and premium audit. Strong project management experience required, as this leader is responsible for the coordination of project teams and ensuring deliverables are met. Qualified candidates must have P&C experience, with a background in policy administration strategy or underwriter workstation strategy.
Job Summary
Officer position responsible for providing management and direction for business process and technology solutions that will generate the highest business value. Business leader who has a broad understanding of business drivers not limited to the functional area of responsibility. Directs the development and implementation of strategic and operational objectives for technology strategy development and execution, in accordance with the company’s strategic plans.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
1. Implements strategic and operational objectives with substantial impact on the success of technology strategy development and execution for Commercial Insurance.
2. Oversees multiple project teams developing and delivering new processes, technology services and enhancements to existing platforms.
3. Effectively manages program budgets and schedules, which requires the ability to successfully prioritize initiatives and make decisions across multiple large and complex projects.
4. Serves as the subject matter expert on all matters involving the integration of underwriting process and technology solutions supporting underwriting and distribution strategies.
5. Develops business cases and drives governance lifecycle activities in conjunction with senior leadership, stakeholder groups and the IT organization.
6. Serves as a liaison to the IT organization providing guidance and oversight to insure that the translation of business needs results in solutions that impact the overall success of the business.
7. Responsible for the development, testing, implementation, and maintenance of product changes.
8. Leads, directs and has full management accountability for staff in area of responsibility with an emphasis on talent management and succession planning in accordance with corporate strategic direction.
9. Creates development plans for staff driving increased product knowledge, system skills, business processes, and project management skills.
10. Ensures all system deliverables are compliant and follow CNA rate, rule, and form filings.
May perform additional duties as assigned.
Reporting Relationship
Typically reports to VP and above
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
1. In-depth technical knowledge of insurance technology development, Commercial Insurance operations and Commercial Insurance underwriting.
2. Ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels of external and/or internal business partners within scope of responsibility, team, and/or matrix environment.
3. Leadership and management skills demonstrating integrity and professionalism.
4. Ability to drive results by identifying and resolving problems within scope of responsibility.
5. Knowledge of the insurance industry, its products and services.
6. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
Education & Experience
1. Bachelor’s degree with Master’s preferred in related discipline, or equivalent.
2. Typically a minimum of ten years of related work experience, with five years management experience.
3. Applicable certifications preferred.
