The Family Office Management (FOM) group at Bessemer Trust, which provides operational and administrative services to ultra-high net worth families, trusts, and foundations, is actively recruiting an experienced CPA to serve as Financial Director in its Woodbridge, New Jersey office. The primary focus of this position will be to coordinate the delivery of financial reporting and related services to Bessemer’s largest and most complex clients. This position requires proven competency in both complex accounting and high end / high touch client service.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Accounting & Financial Reporting:
1. Analyze and summarize current as well as historical client financial data in order to support the preparation of unaudited statements, including balance sheets, statements of net worth, income statements, budgets, cash flow statements, and estate plan summaries.
2. Familiarity with consolidated financial statement preparation.
3. Must possess a good understanding of investment accounting, including alternative investments.
4. Must be willing to perform all levels of accounting work directly as needed, especially quality control.
2. Team Coordination:
1. Coordinate closing with relevant FOM service teams (e.g., consolidated reporting, accounting, bill pay, HR/payroll), client advisory teams, and other Bessemer expert teams (e.g., Tax Department).
2. Serve as the ultimate quality control on all services delivered to clients.
3. Client Service:
1. Interact successfully with sometimes demanding high net worth individuals or their representatives (e.g., their CFO or head of family office) in a highly professional manner to ensure that all client needs and requests are met (e.g., respond quickly, professionally, and thoroughly to requests).
2. Carefully manage client expectations to support successful service delivery experience.
4. Controls & Audit:
1. Provide department leadership in terms of maintaining and enhancing controls / procedures related to client service delivery.
2. Proactively incorporate regulatory requirements and operational risk management in all areas with an audit mindset.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with a minimum of 10-15 years relevant work experience.
• CPA required
• Tax experience beneficial
• Demonstration of a progression in responsibility with significant direct staff management experience
• Excellent proficiency in the use of QuickBooks accounting software
• Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments for several clients in a fast-paced environment and the ability to meet deadlines with efficiency and accuracy
• Clear communicator with good writing / presentation skills and strong interpersonal skills who is detail oriented, highly motivated, and a self-starter
• Demonstrated ability to use tact, discretion, confidentiality and good judgment in handling sensitive and confidential matters and documentation
• Requires periodic travel to client or prospect locations
