To proactively identify internal communication and knowledge management needs by consulting, researching, developing, writing, and maintaining content to align to the division's strategy. Serves as a liaison to the business to ensure local needs are met.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Manage staff, creating a strong team atmosphere. Conduct regular one-on-one meetings and provide guidance, training and motivation as necessary to develop staff. Hire, evaluate and counsel personnel. Follow corporate performance management procedures per established Vanguard standards as required. Set performance standards, review performance, provide feedback, and recommend wage increases in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.
• Serves as a consultant aligned to a division, departments and/or business partners to proactively develop integrated communication strategies, including suggestions for appropriate audience, channel, message and time frame to meet strategic objectives of the business.
• Ability to develop in-depth knowledge of the businesses in order to create communications that draw line of sight into the business goals and priorities for crew.
• Serves as an expert and recommends communication solutions for business challenges. Leads the creation and implementation of those solutions through various channels (print, web, and rich media).
• Researches, writes and/or edits divisional and/or local business communications while displaying versatility, creativity and deep understanding of relevant audience needs.
• Provides direction to cross-functional team members needed for project development and manages the team through the completion of the project, taking responsibility for gaining approvals and agreement from businesses and other stakeholders.
• Ensures that the communications developed meet Vanguard's quality standards, are accurate, and are delivered on time.
• Measures and evaluates the readership effectiveness of the communications based on departmental metrics and standards. Identifies communication improvement opportunities.
• Provides communications best practices and advice to clients. Serves as first point of contact for questions on where to find information.
• Maintains understanding of broader the divisional communication plan as to support air traffic control of messages to all crew in a specific division.
• Accountable for entire content lifecycle of aligned clients’ online business content. Responsible for meta-tagging content according to Vanguard standards.
• Develops and maintains productive working relationships with senior management, crew across the division, and other business units.
• Communicates any relevant trends to aligned clients and leadership team. Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Undergraduate degree in Business, Communications or Marketing required, MBA highly preferred or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Five years of general business experience (preferable experience in marketing or communications experience ideally including communications development, consulting experience, and knowledge of the various communications channels).
• Strong message development, writing and editing skills, including capturing the voice of leaders, for multiple communications channels.
• Deep understanding of the division or ability to quickly obtain.
• Demonstrated project management, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated ability to develop comprehensive communication programs.
• Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Proven experience in managing clients and relationships.
• Excellent presentation skills and comfort presenting to senior management.
• Ability to “translate” communications best practices and processes for crew and business partners.
• Ability to generate creative approaches and solutions through knowledge of communication tools and techniques and various channels (print, web, rich media).
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to work across multiple projects.
• Demonstrated initiative (self-starting).
• Ability to think creatively.
• Experience with SharePoint strongly preferred.
