Role Value Proposition:
This position is responsible for supporting activities related to successful credit risk reporting and data strategies within Global Risk Management. Our primary objective is to Strengthen MetLife’s Credit Risk Management function by developing the tools and resources necessary to monitor and understand enterprise-wide credit risks. For this position, an understanding of business area needs related to investment and non-investment related credit risks, along with knowledge of basic data inputs is required. In general, this role will deliver Credit Risk Management reporting, and continually monitor business process around reporting and data inputs. Where applicable, this role will help implement efficiencies, gather business priorities / requirements related to future risk reporting and data needs.
The successful candidate must be able to work independently and build on prior experience to solve problems. The candidate has to be motivated to understand new technology and businesses, and be able to work in a fast paced environment. The position will require collaboration with other Business areas (e.g. IT, Investments, Finance).
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct day-to-day tasks and deliver approved risk reporting packages, liaising with other Risk Management functions, Investments and IT in order to ensure report completion and to obtain feedback. This also includes training business user on new technology platforms, so that self-service reporting for ad-hoc requests can supplement standard reporting.
• Assist in defining the reporting requirements for Credit Risk teams by understanding how they use and manipulate data. Analyze, develop and propose enhancements to current business processes, reports, and applications in order to optimize system effectiveness for reporting.
• Ensure that manual processes are properly documented and subsequently automated where possible; care is taken to utilize existing applications or suggest business rational for other risk reporting technologies. Continually review, evaluate and report on controls, process documentation and data sources available for reporting.
• Work with IT Operations to implement risk reporting solutions and procedures as permanent parts of the credit risk data architecture. The team will be primary Testers (UAT) for implemented solutions, which ensures all projects take into consideration the overall data and reporting strategy of the organization.
• In addition to data validation, develop data quality assurance (DQA) controls and assist with the implementation of tools that can perform DQA on a more automated basis.
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
Required:
• 3-5 years of experience with insurance and/or financial services data, particularly within data management and reporting.
• Comfortable working with large quantities of data - very strong computer skills
◦ MS Office – Excel, PowerPoint in particular
◦ Some query tool experience (e.g. SQL, SAS) or commercial Business Intelligence reporting tools (e.g. PowerBI, Qlik, Tableau, Microstrategy)
• Acumen to develop, maintain and do technical analysis of enterprise-wide data quality assurance and risk reporting, by possessing the ability to understand data required to report on key credit risk areas, and perform some level of variance analysis before reports are distributed.
• Comfortable interacting with varying levels of risk officers, other business leaders, and technology staff across the company to provide high quality reporting support as needed, and enhance business processes where possible.
• Highly organized self-starter with excellent problem skills, who can own projects and act with reduced supervision.
Preferred:
• Familiarity with third party financial databases such as SNL, Moody’s Credit Edge, Barclays, Bloomberg, etc.
• Motivated to understand new technologies and businesses, particularly around commercial Business Intelligence reporting tools and data quality assurance.
• The ability to assist in translating business reporting needs into technical requirements.
• Some experience identifying workflow issues both with data collection and report distribution/analysis, and looking for business process improvements.
