State Regulatory Compliance Consultant
Job Summary
Proactively tracks and assists with the implementation of new/changing state regulations; partners with the applicable business unit to ensure information is disseminated throughout the organization
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Performs independent review of problem situations, develops solutions, and implements action steps to ensure regulatory compliance; monitors activities to assess compliance risk, identify instances of non-compliance and make recommendations for remedies
Serves as a subject matter expert to provide clear interpretation of applicable regulations for the Aflac business units and partners in the development of necessary implementation plans; serve as project leader on various compliance projects; monitor upcoming changes that may impact Aflac and partner with government relations regarding legislation impacting Aflac
Monitor tracking system for new changing laws and regulations and communicate any necessary changes/requirements to impacted areas of operation; liaison for Aflac group team members for any operational, topical questions; field questions from various operational areas and field force members; oversee regulatory tracking system administrative functions; administer Regulatory Compliance SharePoint site
Partners closely with State and/or Federal Government Relations, the Legal Division and the Aflac business units with respect to the development, establishment and enforcement of processes and procedures necessary to implement required regulations as well as to create and maintain a “closed-loop” accountability system; proactively communicates with all parties in establishing accountability
Partners with internal Compliance teams to maintain relevant regulatory databases, and serves as a referral source for information on any regulatory changes; occasional business objects reporting; research customer questions regarding topics of interest; research, analyze and summarize results for executive requests for business/topic review and corporate impacts
Advises on relevant policies, procedures and activities required for Aflac to operate in accordance with the governing federal and/or state regulations; provides specialized expertise and governance in operational risk and compliance
Perform role of project lead including but not limited to developing project team members, timelines, objectives/goals, assigning tasks, status updates, reporting and final analysis to executive management
Leads Compliance projects and/or the development of specific Compliance processes associated with the operational risk and internal controls that have a substantial impact on department and/or the organization; partners with key leadership to develop effective controls
Reviews and interprets performance against operating plans and standards for the division; provides information and reports to team members on interpretation of results and recommends changes in plans; presents monthly reports on performance, develops and presents matters requiring decisions to key management team for the division
Maintain Quality Management System for Regulatory Compliance including but not limited to documentation, records, reporting, archives, onboarding material, ISO control documents, regulatory key terms/acronyms and State Regulatory Project pages
Performs other related duties as required
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor's Degree in business administration or a related field and six years of professional job-related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Master’s degree preferred

Combination of business knowledge and an in-depth knowledge of compliance concepts, statutes, and regulations
Interpersonal communication skills, organization and follow-up skills; strong verbal communication and excellent written communication
Attention to detail
Excellent oral and written presentation skills needed to effectively interact with customers
A positive and enthusiastic attitude with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
Ability to work with little or no supervision
Stands out as someone able to consistently exercise good judgment
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; demonstrate effective time management skills by completing assignments
Moderate travel required
