The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Head of Total Rewards, the Benefits Manager will drive the strategy, planning, administration, and implementation of all benefits programs and policies as part of the Total Rewards package. This person will work with senior leadership and partner with internal stakeholders in the establishment of corporate short and long-term objectives regarding employee benefits programs which provide value to employees and are cost effective for the organization. He/she will lead/direct a benefit and leave administration team with relationship oversight and accountability of third-party administrators.
Key Responsibilities
• Drives large market specific or corporate-wide benefit projects/programs and ensures adherence to strategic goals, benefit policies and compliance with applicable laws and regulations
• Partners with finance & accounting on the overall benefits budget, claims processing and vendor payments. Leads the team on reconciliation efforts related to payroll deductions or vendor billing.
• Accountability for all benefit programs covering approximately 10,000 employees located throughout the US and a small operation in Canada
• Designs, recommends and implements a benefit framework to align with OneMain’s values, business objectives and budgets
• Directs the annual renewal and annual enrollment process including preparation of employee communications and vendor preparedness
• Recommends changes to ensure alignment of the organization’s benefit objectives and competitive position in the marketplace.
• Monitors and evaluates existing benefit programs, including self-insured and fully-insured insurance programs, 401(k) plan, leave programs, ensuring that all programs are current, and competitive with respect to the trends, best practices and costs.
• Collaborates with the 401(k) administrator to ensure that the plan is compliant with all laws and regulations and that yearly audits, testing and reporting is done accurately and on time.
• Acts as the primary liaison with insurance carriers, vendors, brokers, and consultants on various matters such as health and welfare plan design, contracts, plan coverage and plan renewals.
• Consults on complex and visible benefit issues and makes recommendations to management and other business partners
• Conducts Analysis of claims trends reporting
• Ensures the leave administration team and disability vendors deliver optimal support to employees during their time of need and within compliance of policy or regulatory framework
• Provides oversight to workers compensation policies, claims and payments
• Designs communication programs to increase perceived value of programs and ensure appropriate understanding by employees.
• Leverages technology to streamline benefits practices as needed.
The Candidate
Qualifications
• 10 years minimum prior relevant experience in developing, managing and leading benefit programs in a multi-state decentralized environment; familiarity with benefit programs in Canada a plus
• Senior level technical knowledge of various health and wellness programs, including self-insured and fully insured plans
• Possess knowledge of the regulatory landscape involving benefit programs including HIPPA, ERISA, COBRA, Affordable Care Act, FMLA, ADA and other federal and state requirements
• Requires exceptional customer service, business knowledge, general management, and leadership capability and partnership within HR and functional areas.
• Requires technical and operational capability to define and/or oversee program design in broad area of responsibility. Experience with Workday a plus
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Finance, Accounting, Business, or relevant field
• Certification in employee benefits a plus
