Tax Reporting & Advisory Director
POSITION SUMMARY:
Grant Thornton’s responsive, partner-led Tax service teams help dynamic companies navigate complexity and grow with insightful, practical tax advice. In addition to tax professionals in more than 50 offices around the United States, our Washington National Tax Office provides deep technical knowledge and responsive support in local, state, federal and international tax. Our tax services include: compliance, human capital services, federal tax services, international tax services, state and local tax services, private wealth services, tax reporting and advisory, partnership taxation, not-for-profit tax, and mergers & acquisition tax services.
The TRA Director works within the national Tax Reporting & Advisory (TRA) Tax group and is responsible for delivery of a full range of Tax services to various clients in a wide variety of industries. Responsibilities include interacting closely with clients and colleagues to provide valuable, innovative tax planning and consulting services in a highly responsive transactional environment; developing and managing a high functioning team of professionals and working closely with partners and staff on client management, practice development and business development activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Oversee the efforts of multiple client services teams on client engagements.
• Plan, execute, direct and complete Tax consulting projects in a wide variety of industries to a diverse client base, including financial sponsors and strategic buyers and sellers
• Market, sell, design, and implement tax-planning strategies to both new and existing Firm clients
• Manage all financial aspects of projects, including budgeting, invoicing and collection.
• Develop relationships with the Firm's senior-level client serving professionals both in the candidate's local office and in other offices throughout the region.
• Ability to work closely with the Firm's Transaction Advisory Services professionals, as well as colleagues in the Firm's other tax, audit and advisory service lines.
• Develop and maintain new business and client relationships, both with existing Firm clients and new clients.
• Recruit, manage, develop, train, and mentor TRA staff on tax projects and assess performance for engagement and year-end reviews, including staff that may be located in other offices.
• Work effectively with national TRA teams in all aspects of practice development and leadership, including proficiency in change management.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, CPA, or JD/active law license required.
• A minimum of eight years of progressive federal tax consulting experience, as well as some amount of business entity tax compliance experience in public accounting or a combination of corporate and public accounting experience.
• Experience in a medium- to large-sized public, regional, or national accounting firm.
• Demonstrated success in a leadership role.
• Experience in Corporate, S-Corp and/or Partnership returns.
• Hands-on, advanced experience using tax technology.
• Consulting experience within Tax system and process improvement implementation.
• Knowledge of CORPTAX, Vertex or ONESOURCE software.
• Excellent analytical, technical, and tax accounting/technology skills.
• Demonstrated new business development experience.
• Majority of experience should be developing business with domestic corporate clients in the middle market.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
• Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage and develop staff in a highly interactive team environment.
• Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing priorities.
Additional Information
• Ability to work additional hours and travel to various client sites as needed.
