Position Overview
Legg Mason is hiring an experienced and talented Head of Retirement Solutions Marketing as a new key member of our Global Marketing and Communications team.
The Head of Retirement Solutions Marketing is responsible for leading marketing for Variable Annuity, Sub-advised and DCIO client segments and enterprise relationships to improve client awareness and target market penetration and deliver distinctive and impactful client experiences in pursuit of Legg Mason’s revenue and growth objectives. He or she will work collaboratively with marketing colleagues and the sales and product management teams to support the business development and pitch process, Request for Proposal support and launch, promotion and management of investment themes, products and client service capabilities.
The Head of Retirement Solutions will be at the forefront of driving high awareness of the investment products and solutions we provide to financial intermediaries. He or she will work with sales to identify both the existing and unmet needs of intermediary clients to build marketing strategies that are hyper relevant and useful in their day-to-day investment and client relationship activities. This role is characterized by creative, innovative marketing capabilities, deep marketing expertise and segment-specific knowledge, along with an ability to juggle multiple projects with a sense of urgency.
The Head of Retirement Solutions will partner with product and marketing functional experts to plan and implement large scale campaigns and projects that involve traditional, digital, social, new, and emerging mediums, including paid, owned, and earned, to support the overall marketing strategy to build brand awareness, drive sales, and promote the firm’s overall capabilities.
In addition, you will also partner with Legal and Compliance to ensure adherence to regulations and policies related to investment product marketing. The ability to manage multiple stakeholder needs, manage and identify risks that may arise from competing priorities, and adjusting plans as necessary is critical. You will be expected to develop strategic briefs in support of key initiatives, projects and tactics. These briefs will present a well thought, high conviction strategy and plan that is rooted in the client need while addressing the business objective. These plans will also outline campaign and project components and deliverables, as well as identify measurement plans.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead a team dedicated to partnering with Sales and Product leadership and provide end-to-end marketing support for our Variable Annuity, Sub-Advised and DCIO channels
• Develop and execute against comprehensive engagement, education and service marketing programs for clients who may not have the benefit of relationships with LM sales personnel.
• Develop annual marketing plans and thematic or product promotional creative briefs that appropriately deploy both traditional and digital strategy and execution techniques.
• Work with the Business Analytics team to understand the preferences and behaviors of the target markets; plan, measure and continually optimize marketing activities.
• Work with integrated marketers and marketing functional experts (Digital, Email, Social, Events) to develop innovative marketing and value add programs that address the target market’s unmet needs
• Work with the Global Content Team to develop materials to support client nurturing and development efforts
• Develop and execute effective marketing strategies to support the development of new products and enhancing existing products to meet client needs
• Show continual progress in efforts to provide businesses, channels, and functions with marketing metrics to measure and monitor success of programs including return on investment, impact on revenue goals, etc.
• Be a strong and effective leader capable of developing strong relationships with sales and product teams and collaborating with them to achieve better outcomes.
• Maintain strict adherence to regulatory guidelines for all marketing communications including proactive management of marketing operational risk. A keen understanding of the investment management regulatory environment and a focus on risk are also key aspects of this role
• Collaborate and influence across lines of business at multiple levels, as well as be able to counsel partners with the ability to connect “dots” across various and sometimes competing/ambiguous challenges

Qualifications:
• BA/BS in Marketing, Communications or a related field is required; MBA preferred
• 15+ years of marketing experience; 5+ years of leadership experience
• Retirement marketing experience specifically in the intermediary asset management industry and an understanding and appreciation for the industries unique client segment needs
• Strong knowledge of mutual funds, separately managed accounts, variable and fixed annuities, CIT and ETFs and an advanced understanding of financial markets and investing concepts
• Proven success in leading marketing strategies targeted at driving brand awareness and engagement with target client segments
• Demonstrated experience aligning marketing strategy with segment-specific distribution teams to drive exceptional results and client outcomes
• Demonstrated experience in launching new product lines
• The ability to work and communicate effectively with virtual teams while working autonomously
• The ability to work in a high-paced environment and deliver to tight deadlines
• Deep understanding of compliance rules and regulations related to mutual fund investing and retirement products
• A passion for innovation and proven ability to build disruptive marketing programs that drive industry recognition and advisor activity
• A strong analytical background and understanding for how and when marketing is successful in driving positive business outcomes and using data to optimize marketing activities
• FINRA Series 7 registration; Series 24 must be completed within 180 days of hire date if it's not available for transfer upon hire
