Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of Loan Syndications Underwriting and Portfolio Management, the Loan Syndications Director of Underwriting and Portfolio Management will be responsible for supporting the Middle Market Commercial & Industrial lending business (“C&I”) through management of the loan syndication origination and amendment process from origination to close, ensuring accuracy of underwriting and efficient execution of multi-bank transactions. Other responsibilities include supporting the team’s broader infrastructure initiatives, internal reporting and mentoring junior team members. The ideal professional for this highly analytical and process-oriented role is a resourceful, independent self-starter with a strong C&I credit background, fastidious attention to detail and solid relationship management skills.
Primary responsibilities include the following daily tasks:
• Critically reviewing underwriting and legal documentation;
• Drafting internal syndication memorandums/opinions;
• Preparing transaction marketing materials (i.e. bank books, teasers, etc.);
• Distributing and communicating transaction information to co-lenders;
• Collaborating with Agency Services to execute the syndication closing process;
• Participating in Bank Meetings with co-lenders (travel required);
• Supporting ongoing infrastructure initiatives;
• Aiding in template creation and improvements, reporting, and technology platform (SyndTrak) adoption;
• Managing existing agented transactions and leading the amendment process on previously closed syndications;
• Maintaining market knowledge and industry awareness, and effectively communicating knowledge to others within CIBC;
• Mentoring and training junior team members to ensure cross training and strong long term platform build out;
• Contributing to and maintaining a positive work atmosphere;
• Special projects, as required.
Qualifications
• Exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
• Proven financial modeling and analytical abilities
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with internal and external constituents
• Ability to meet deadlines and establish priorities to manage multiple issues.
• Minimum 7-10 years of direct C&I finance/credit experience
• College degree required
• Syndications experience is preferred but not required
