The Senior Underwriter manages key relationships and underwrites/reviews complex transactions for Trade Credit/Trade Finance brokers/markets/industries, managing a significant book of business (up to $5 mil+ gpw) as well as provides training and guidance of junior underwriters and staff.
Other main responsibilities include having full knowledge of the complete suite of AIG Trade Credit/Trade Finance products, capabilities and covered transactions, driving cross sell/marketing initiatives to increase AIG Trade Credit/Trade Finance reach and new business opportunities. This is a critical role as it relates to retention, servicing, underwriting and meeting new business objectives.
Responsibilities Include
• Develop strong relationships with brokers and clients to grow the underwriter’s book of trade credit/trade finance business.
• Train, mentor, and provide technical direction to underwriters, contributing to group revenue targets and meeting internal operations/audit directives for the division..
• Underwrite large/complex, new and renewal insurance submissions and negotiate policy terms and conditions.
• Analyze domestic and international corporate credits, evaluating financial information, and recommending or approving appropriate credit limits and terms.
• Professionally maintain and properly service an existing book of trade credit/trade finance insurance business.
• Market, sell and present to brokers and insureds to increase submission flow.
• Engage in various underwriting and marketing projects to improve overall company results.
• Meet operating and audit guidelines and goals of senior management.
Requirements
• Qualified candidates should have a background in banking, credit or financial analysis and strong marketing skills.
• 3-5 years of trade finance underwriting experience preferred.
• Proficiency in software packages Microsoft Outlook, Cap IQ, Salesforce).
• Solid organizational and communication skills are essential.
• MBA is strongly preferred.
• Foreign language proficiency valued, and underwriting, banking, or other credit analysis experience a plus.
