POSITION SUMMARY:
The VP, HR Business Partner provides broad scale HR consulting and problem-solving solutions to senior business leaders and operates as a full member of the senior business leaders’ management teams.The position will report directly into a SMD, HR Business Partner.
This position will partner with Nuveen Equities and Fixed Income (NEFI) leaders to develop human capital strategies that align to their business goals and operating model. The incumbent will lead or facilitate Human Resources programs/initiatives, including compensation, talent acquisition, talent management, organizational development, diversity/inclusion, and learning/training in partnership with HR centers of excellence. In addition to implementing people management strategies, incumbents are also responsible for ensuring that firm policies and procedures are implemented across the business area including the annual promotion, performance review, and compensation processes. Finally, the incumbent will guide business leaders to manage employee relations issues such as disciplinary, grievances, employee litigation, redundancy and terminations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
• Serves as a trusted advisor to the management team by developing and implementing an overall HR strategy that reflects the NEFI business plans.
• Consistently delivers high impact solutions to business leaders.
• Participates in enterprise business planning; champions an enterprise culture of continuous improvement, ensuring the appropriate talent structure, engagement model, performance management and recognition systems are applied to support strategic objectives.
• Delivers broad based and complex messages or concepts to employees; presents HR strategies and initiatives in a way that provides clarity around integration and business relevance.
• Skillfully leads and influences using appropriate human capital data for improved decision making and aligns multi-dimensional change management efforts.
• Offers objective and balanced advice to leaders on business challenges and people implications, leadership effectiveness, culture, and alignment of area-specific people programs with enterprise HR programs
• Support and coach leaders to maintain a performance culture, aligned to our values while integrating and aligning values into our People Processes

• Contracting & Influencing: Influences tactics, and strategies and impacts decisions within HR and across the organization, in a constructive and collaborative manner. Partners with key stakeholders to agree upon outcomes and manage expectations.
• Decision Making & Critical Thinking:Understanding of the issues related to the decision making process; ability to analyze situations fully and accurately, include diverse perspectives and reach productive decisions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
• 8+ years of experience in human resources or related functions, e.g., employee relations, compensation, staffing, talent management, generalist responsibilities, benefit administration, information systems, training and development.

Desired:
• HR experience with TIAA, Nuveen and TIAA Bank
• Demonstrated ability influencing the business strategy and shaping HR strategic direction
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills – can communicate complex concepts and recommendations into simple and compelling presentations.
• Strong analytic mindset with the ability to learn quickly.
• Proven organizational and prioritization skills to meet the demands of a matrix organization.
• Must have process and project experience, including the ability to execute flawlessly and meet all deadlines.
• Ability to remain self-motivated and engaged to meet the demands of the business.
• MBA or applicable Master’s degree and professional designations, e.g., CCP, SPHR, etc., preferred
• M&A and/ or transition experience desired.
• Previous experience working within the asset management industry or a financial services organization a plus.
