Liberty Mutual Surety™ has an excellent Summer Internship opportunity working with our Contract Surety team in our Orange, CA office during summer 2019. This is a great opportunity for current Finance, Economics, or Business majors to learn more about our exciting Finance-based career, and interested in pursuing a full-time opportunity in Surety Underwriting upon graduation.

The Opportunity:
During our concentrated Surety Underwriting internship, you will acquire and develop analytical skills and knowledge in financial and credit analysis, marketing, account evaluation, and/or contract and project risk assessment necessary to underwrite Surety bonds. This program is designed to provide hands on experience in Surety Underwriting, and develop Surety knowledge by working with top industry experts on day-to-day activities, with the opportunity to practice business skills learned in school. This is a highly interactive, comprehensive, and structured internship opportunity directly related to building the skills and knowledge that will help you succeed in a full-time Surety career upon graduation.
Responsibilities:
As a Surety Intern, you will have the opportunity to:
• participate in real work every day, whether dealing directly with the client base in Surety underwriting and claims or doing analytical work;
• work on specific projects where they have defined tasks and learn from each one;
• become familiar with the Surety industry, Surety systems, processes and procedures and procedures;
• have a dedicated mentor and engage with team members from Administrative to Executive levels;
• build business and professional skills that will prepare you for leadership positions;
• attend Surety’s New Hire training in Seattle, WA (based on dates);
• study for the AFSB 151 module, necessary to obtain the Associates in Fidelity and Surety Bonding certification;
• gain exposure to Surety’s various product lines and operating groups through job-shadowing activities; and
• present to the group and management about your internship experience; and
• gather experience that could convert to a full-time position upon graduation.
Interns also complement hands-on experience with training in the essentials of a successful professional life including networking skills, business etiquette, and project management.
Qualifications::
• Pursuing a Bachelor's in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or equivalent and has completed or is enrolled in finance and accounting courses.
• Meet minimum 3.0 Overall GPA requirements.
• Has achieved academic recognition such as scholarships or honors list preferred.
• Participates in school and/or community activities.
• Seeking an internship with the potential to transition to a full-time position following graduation in a finance capacity and focusing on relationships.
• Must be willing to relocate in the event a full-time position and/or upon completion of training program should a full-time position result.
• Displays approachable and outgoing characteristics with natural interpersonal abilities.
• Demonstrates superior written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to provide information in a clear, concise manner.
• Ability to build and maintain effective relationships.
• Demonstrates effective analytical skills to gather information, analyze facts, and draw conclusions.
• Has general exposure and understanding of financial statements.
