I. MAJOR FUNCTION:
Manages daily operations for Accounting and transactions affecting our clients. Oversees the national close process for our clients. Supervises the accounts reconciliation, cash collections, accounts payable and cash disbursement activities of the client’s chapters. Assists the client in preparation for the annual audit. Assists in ensuring the implementation of accounting best practices and compliance with Federal and State tax laws, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) compliance and internal controls.
II. BASIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for all account reconciliations, month end closing process, accounts payable and cash disbursement activities for our clients. Responsible for month end close for our clients. In conjunction with the Senior Manager, assists in determining work assignments, priorities and performance expectations.
1. Prepares monthly financial statement package, including monthly variance explanations.
1. Prepares financial reports and schedules and responds to financial inquiries. Researches and prepares charts and reports as requested by the client or senior management.
1. Supervises and provides assistance for control and maintenance of fixed assets, investments, and depreciation and amortization schedules.
1. Responsible for preparing information and participating in the annual audit. Duties include, but are not limited to: compiling statements and schedules, and providing information that may be required throughout the audit process. Prepares analysis and answers questions in conjunction with the annual audit.
1. Responsible for chapter accounting activities, including overseeing accounts payable, cash receipts, reconciliations, and monthly close.
1. Reviews and assesses internal controls and recommends areas for improved efficiency, operations and processing of financial data. Tests procedures and operations periodically to ensure adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and compliance with established accounting and auditing practices.
1. Provides technical assistance to chapters, subsidiaries and staff, as necessary.
III. MINIMUM WORK REQUIREMENTS:
Skills:
1. Requires strong supervisory, organizational, analytical, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
1. Must be able to work with limited supervision and to demonstrate the ability to manage/coach employees.
1. Strong technical and report writing skills are required.
1. Must excel at executive level communications demonstrating the ability to succinctly distill salient information from a large volume of data.
1. Strong problem identification and resolution skills required.
1. Proficiency in the use of automated accounting system software (currently MS Dynamics SL) and spreadsheet applications.
Knowledge:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required, CPA preferred.
1. Requires demonstrated sound knowledge of financial statement preparation, accounts payable and general accounting and budgeting procedures.
1. Must have thorough knowledge of GAAP and FASB procedures and extensive experience analyzing, evaluating and interpreting financial statements.
Experience:
Requires a minimum of seven years of experience in General accounting, three of which must be at the supervisory level, preferably in an association or not-for-profit environment.
