Position Description
Provides technical leadership in the development and implementation of technology solutions and standards. Leads the organization in technical solutions and architectural patterns that help drive strategy and resiliency for lines of business, application development, and other IT projects. Is considered a key partner with LoB CIO teams and develops long term infrastructure strategies while delivering standard project workloads. Partners with infrastructure teams to provide the business with the best possible solutions. Keeps up to date on technology trends.
The Director of Platform Optimization should be well versed among many technology trends, standards, and innovative topics. He/She would help drive engineering and architecture teams towards future strategies and ensure the firm is staying aligned with technology direction of the industry.
This is a technical leadership position. The candidate should have hands on experience with technical implementations and solutions AS WELL as the capability to market those solutions internally.
Specifically, this role will be responsible for ensuring all platforms are engineered in the most resilient and efficient way possible. They will work directly with the individual operations and engineering teams to review, analyze, and rearchitect where necessary platform issues. They will work as a proactive champion in our organization to search for and resolve infrastructure issues before they cause issues.
As a leader, this role may mentor members of a small team to provide the best-in-class technology platform to our partners.
Job Responsibilities
• Capable of leading Enterprise and Program level efforts at scale, managing directly and indirectly organizational approaches to technology changes.
• Responsible for ensuring operations teams, infrastructure domain engineering teams have accurately established monitoring and performance metrics.
• Leads a small team of infrastructure experts that are responsible for collaborating on technology (domain) roadmap, refresh programs and that it is clearly documented and communicated.
• Ensures proper capacity management regimens are accurately reflective of platform needs.
• When necessary, will lead cross-domain operational and engineering teams and LOB Application teams to triage cronic, high priority, or performance degrading issues.
• Helps the Infrastructure Architecture team to define technology strategy.
• Serves as a key member of the Enterprise Architecture team and consults on a regular basis to ensure alignment with corporate strategy
• Works with key partners and teams to refine technology and application designs
• Establishes patterns and new design standards for infrastructure teams.
• Reviews and establishes metrics that help align best practices to LoB expectations.
• Provides technical expertise and advice to technology teams.
• Provides enterprise direction around BCP and DR processes
• Represents the infrastructure organization to LoB teams that will help define future direction around Private and Public Cloud designs and usage
• Ensures a risk management mindset when considering technology solutions
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Preferable Certifications: Amazon, Microsoft, Cisco, Linux, Puppet, Ansible, Redhat, or comparable experience
Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or related science or relevant experience
• 15+ Years Red Hat Linux, Windows, Networking, VMware and/ or Storage expert.
• 7+ Years working with financial firms.
• Familiarity with Public Cloud Architectures such as AWS, Azure, Google
• Familiarity with Openshift Docker/Swarm Container platforms
• Strong DevOps/ CI/CD process architecture/engineering, Jenkins, GIT, Source Code tools.
• Extensive experience with Middleware (JBOSS EAP, Weblogic, Tomcat, Tibco, etc.) and Database platforms (Oracle, SQL, NoSQL, Cassandra, MongoDB).
• Experience with Integration technologies such as NGINX, Apache, Messaging platforms (MQ, AMQ, RabbitMQ), Caching technologies (Redis, Coherence, etc), NodeJS.
• Understands and can lead best practices around large scale implementation concepts of critical components in infrastructure
• Strong familiarity with Oracle, Solaris, UCS, other hardware and VMware based infrastructure solutions.
• Engineering and architecting enterprise grade solutions for hardware and Software issues.
• Significant experience designing and tuning systems at scale.
• Experience with various storage (VMAX, XIO, VNX, Isilon, ECS, Centera, and Solaris/UCS server platforms
• Helps drive high availability solutions from an infrastructure, application, and general enterprise perspective.
• Experience leading critical projects through completion
• F5 LTM/GTM familiarity as well as general application delivery and routing concepts.
• Splunk/ AppDynamic/Extrahop experience
