This position coordinates the execution of print production for multiple channels including direct mail, inserts and fulfillment, by leveraging their technical expertise to check adherence to requirements at all stages of the print production process. The position works directly with the production agency and print vendors to oversee quality control, come up with solutions to correct problems when necessary, improve print quality and reduce costs. When required, represents NYL on site at vendor locations during press checks. Manages a significant number of assignments with a high degree of independence. Is able to manage more complex and technically challenging production projects.
• Coordinates production schedules; manages the Compliance and product update routings with the production agency and supplier; ensures compliance requirements for state versions and other variations are met; performs quality control checks for print quality and Data Processing Lettershop (DPL) accuracy; ensures accuracy in the execution of production for new creative tests; and helps minimize cost per thousand (CPMs) through recommendations on production techniques and format optimization.
• Manage proofing and quality control processes for direct mail kit components from mechanicals, print, personalizations and mail approvals through mail completion.
• Key liaison with creative, strategy and production teams to evaluate, identify and recommend solutions for process improvements, cost efficiencies and creative format options.
• Execute and maintain established Compliance proofing and routing procedures.
• Assist Manager in reporting monthly expenditures and yearly budget variances for the Programs.
• Conduct quality control on-site press approvals at vendors for complex direct mail inline and inserted kits as required.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Graphics, Print, Project management preferred.
• 5+ years graphic experience, preferably with offset printing and personalization and mailing.
• Proofreading experience.
• Ability to develop and approve a direct mail schedule.
• Ability to provide support to agencies, creative and strategy on DM formats.
• Ability to write data processing instructions and perform quality control.
• Ability to understand postal regulations and impacts to creative.
• Ability to understand printing processes, personalization, variable fields, in-line versus inserted kits, envelope construction, postage reconciliation, paper and bindery.
• Must have broad knowledge of business processes.
• Ability to understand schedules and manage to them.
• Ability to escalate issues and communicate status.
• Ability to manage inventory levels and procurement.
• Ability to manage invoice reconciliation, cost tracking and monthly budget reconciliations.
• Ability to Understand workflow of advertising material.
• Ability to balance conflicting schedules.
• Ability to manage manufacturing and vendor issues and report to managers as they arise.
• Ability to provide alternative solutions due to cost and or timing issues.
• Ability to manage budget reconciliations and analyze price structures.
• Ability to prioritize daily conflicting schedules, with internal staff and outside suppliers.
• Ability to pass/fail on quality standards.
• Ability to identify a graphic issue.
• Ability to QC against checklist and make decisions on approvals.
• Ability to communicate graphic, print and mailing status to internal teams.
• Ability to communicate instructions and changes to partners.
