Job Description:
This position will provide financial planning and analysis support for the Discover Home Equity Loans business. The role offers an exciting opportunity for a detailed, intellectually curious, and analytical minded candidate. We are seeking a highly motivated individual contributor with demonstrated experience in building strong business partnerships across multiple functions (e.g., Marketing, Operations, and Credit Risk). The position is based in Riverwoods, IL, a suburb of Chicago. Discover also offers a satellite office conveniently located in downtown Chicago.
Key responsibilities include:
• Develop financial plans including budgeting and strategic planning of various revenue and expense drivers to drive insightful analyses
• Ability to work with large amounts of data to drive meaningful insights
• Continually enhance financial models, including receivables and revenue model and long-term P&L model to improve forecasting accuracy and drive new business insights
• Develop thorough understanding of interdependencies of all P&L line items and profitability drivers
• Continuously improve and streamline the financial management processes including monthly reporting and forecasting
• Lead cost-benefit analyses to help business prioritize and improve financial outlook
• Evaluate revenue opportunities and expense reduction initiatives to drive profitability
• Promote a risk-aware culture, ensure efficient and effective risk and compliance management practices by adhering to required standards and processes.
Skills:
Skills Required
• 4 plus years of experience in financial planning & analysis, business analysis or equivalent experience in consulting, investment banking, credit card, banking and other financial institutions
• High level of critical thinking to formulate business issues into analytical problems and devise actionable solutions
• Robust communication, interpersonal, presentation, and organizational skills
• Strong level of financial and business acumen to be able to drive results for breadth of initiatives
• Must have ability to interact and partner effectively at multiple levels of the organization
• Strong experience and proficiency with Excel
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, quantitative field or related discipline
• Ability to independently manage processes and work with ambiguity
Skills Desired:
• Consumer or commercial banking industry experience a plus
• Experience in financial modeling and data driven financial analysis (NPV, IRR, etc) a plus
• Experience with Essbase and/or equivalent budgeting and management reporting tools a plus
