As a Specialist in Financial Reporting - SEC GAAP, you will be responsible for complex accounting and reporting activities associated with the GAAP accounting close and financial statements and supporting schedules. You will provide technical accounting expertise while implementing and analyzing accounting policies to support Lincoln Financial Group's goals and strategic objectives. You will carry out duties such as SEC and other regulatory reporting, which may include 10-K/10-Q filings, XBRL, Benefit Plans, GAAP accounting close, and Investor Relations/Business Unit support as needed.
Financial Reporting
• Prepare and review financial statements, footnotes and supporting schedules according to the GAAP accounting close calendar;
• Conduct financial analysis on consolidated and business unit results, including providing ongoing support for the business unit teams and our various other partners as needed;
• Support quarterly earnings release and other investor relations-related matters such as debt offerings and investor presentations;
• Research complex technical accounting and reporting matters as they arise, and document conclusions reached in accordance with relevant accounting literature; and
• Assist with the GAAP accounting close including the preparation and/or review of journal entries and account reconciliations.
Monitoring and Analysis
• Analyze financial statements and other supporting schedules to understand trends in the business and ensure the accuracy of reported results, and communicate analysis to key stakeholders;
• Monitor peer company filings as needed to stay current in trends within the insurance space; and
• Help maintain and improve our internal control system to ensure a successful outcome of SOX testing and opinion.
Decision-making, Strategy and Management Accounting
• Participate in projects pertaining to our strategic digitization initiatives as well as other initiatives within Finance and the Chief Accounting Office;
• Participate in process improvements (e.g., new system implementations, system conversions, strategic initiatives) and procedural or accounting changes; and
• Participate in special projects including new accounting principle implementation and SOX process improvements.
Audit and Assurance
• Assist in the preparation of industry and governmental surveys;
• Provide support for partners across the organization for all accounting and reporting needs; and
• Partner with our External Auditors to ensure a successful outcome from an audit opinion perspective.
Education
• Undergraduate degree or 4+years of comparable work experience; educational concentration in Accounting or relevant field is required;
• Current CPA or in the process of obtaining CPA licensure desired
• Masters degree in Accounting a plus.
Experience
• 1-3 years of experience in Accounting that directly aligns with specific responsibilities of position;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; and
• Exposure to Hyperion Essbase and PeopleSoft general ledger, preferred.
