Job Summary
Individual contributor provides highest level of expertise for design and development, specification and communication of the company's technology architecture plan, the infrastructure components required to support it, and in the integration of corporate and business area architectures. Leads multiple projects for the area. Develops innovative and effective solutions for the most diverse and most complex business problems.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
• Acts as principal designer for major corporate systems architecture including applications, data, and infrastructure architectures.
• Leads the design and development of the enterprise data warehouse, data lake and other complex data systems and solutions
• Oversee development of conceptual, logical and physical data models to support data analysis and business intelligence. Ensure technology solutions are in alignment with data architecture principles and target state.
• Responsible for developing, recommending and executing strategic and tactical business and technology roadmaps in conjunction with business partners and strategy teams; describing the evolution of enterprise portfolios from current state to future state.
• Responsible for defining and documenting conceptual architecture; capturing and documenting non-functional (architectural) requirements, preparing estimates and defining technical solutions to proposals (RFPs).
• Provides integrated systems planning and recommends new or different technologies which will enhance current systems and support overall corporate and business goals.
• Researches and evaluates new and/or alternative solutions and technologies to enhance operational effectiveness, reduce costs and/or system risks and increase speed to market.
• Provides in-depth technical consultation to business partners and IT management to ensure development of efficient application systems utilizing established standards, procedures and methodologies.
• Manages vendor relationships to maintain state of the art knowledge in emerging technologies and to develop image as a leading corporation utilizing the latest thinking in technology.
• Proactively monitors strategic direction of vendors/software products, technology and market trends, and determine their potential impact and value to the enterprise.
• Leads and facilitates architecture governance and review processes.
• May perform additional duties as assigned.

Typically Director or above
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
• Expert knowledge of design and implementation of database and storage systems, distributed architectures, data integration and ETL architecture.
• Senior level knowledge of the system development life cycle, system program development, technological alternatives and architecture methodologies for multi-platform environments.
• Strong knowledge of contemporary technology and business trends that allows architecture to solve problems in a creative and cost effective manner.
• Information architecture and data modeling experience in insurance and/or finance domains strongly preferred.
• Experience with advanced database and storage technologies (e.g., MS SQL, Postgres, Oracle, Big Query, Redshift, MongoDB, Couch DB, S3 )
• Experience with public cloud platforms (e.g., Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, Azure, etc.) and large scale enterprise cloud transformation.
• Experience with big data technologies (e.g., EMR, Cloud Proc, Cloudera, Hortonworks)
• Experience with programming languages (e.g., SQL, Java, Python, .Net)
• Excellent communication and interpersonal and consultative skills to work effectively with vendors, clients, peers, and IT management and staff.
• Must be able to clearly communicate complex technical and business concepts both to business partners and team members.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• Working knowledge of systems architectural concepts and frameworks like TOGAF preferred.
• Experience developing 3-5 year roadmaps outlining the evolution of the enterprise application portfolios from current to future state.
Education & Experience
• Advanced degree in Computer Science, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Typically a minimum of nine years of solid, diverse work experience in IT including experience with systems architecture methodologies.
• Some previous project leadership experience is desirable.
• Applicable certifications preferred.
