Overview of the Role
This position functions in a dual capacity; both as the Communications Sector Team Leader (STL) and an Analyst. As a Sector Team Leader you will be responsible for mentoring, coaching and training team members to foster investment effectiveness and career development. You will be expected to communicate and advocate for the sector team’s best ideas to influence stock ownership in relevant portfolios, and stimulate value-added debate on stocks, industry trends and cross-sector trends. As an analyst, you will also be responsible for providing portfolio managers with relevant information and recommendations regarding investment ideas, primarily in the international technology and internet equity sectors. You will conduct deep fundamental analysis of individual companies, focusing on factors such as financial performance, competitive industry dynamics, technological innovation, quality of company management, governance, capital allocation, etc.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Oversee the effectiveness of team member investment ideas by coaching, training and proofing their work as necessary.
• Incorporate ideas from a wide variety of internal and external sources to encourage professional debate and better investment decisions.
• Act as a steward of team member careers.
• Communicate articulately, concisely and persuasively in a timely manner on all facets of an investment decision.
• Advocate for sector team members and their best ideas to PMs to maximize ownership in funds.
• Partner closely with portfolio managers and peers – a key cultural tenet of the organization.
• Conduct deep fundamental analysis. While the analyst will interview company management teams, research should include extensive independent contacts such as competitors, customers, partners and other relevant participants in the internet and technology value chain.
• Develop detailed financial models and project long-term values of stocks under coverage using discounted cash flow methodologies and make buy and sell recommendations.
• Forecast growth, evaluates competitive position, determines quality of financial statement information and analyzes potential responses to worst case scenarios.
• Synthesize fundamental research to form a differentiated view and recommendation on stocks.
Supervisory Responsibilities
• Expected to assume supervisory responsibilities.
Technical Skills and Qualifications
• Four year degree in quantitative or analytical field.
• 7+ years’ experience in equity investment role with proven track record of outperformance.
• 5+ years’ experience analyzing and modeling international internet/technology companies.
• Post graduate degree such as MBA/MS or progress toward a CFA a plus.
• Background in equity research, technology, private equity, investment banking or consulting preferred.
• A track record of leadership and success.
• Emotionally mature with exceptional listening skills and empathy.
• Experience working in a collaborative environment.
• Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Strong creativity, initiative, intellectual curiosity and drive.
• Persuasive verbal and written communication skills.
• Understanding of corporate finance, accounting, all Microsoft Outlook products.
For those in scope of Knowledge & Competence (MiFID II)
• Knowledge of financial markets, financial markets function and the impact of economic figures and national/regional/global events on markets
• Understanding of issues relating to market abuse and anti-money laundering
Ongoing competence in the role to be assessed by:
• Annual Performance Appraisal
• Completion of all assigned Compliance training
• Annual Attestation (Knowledge and Competence in-scope roles only)

At a minimum the role will require you to:
