Job Purpose (Job Summary):
The Business Analyst is the interface between Compliance and IT and Data Management and is responsible for creating business requirements by analyzing business processes and related systems; assisting development team to design solutions that meet business needs; and conducting quality assurance tasks to make sure client’s expectations are met. The Business Analyst will be working with a variety of business applications including developed as well as vendor systems. It includes the development of the target state organization design, functional and process models. Staff/resource plans and then supports subsequent activities to ensure successful integration of the target state into an Operational “BAU” state. With limited direction, the Business Analyst is responsible for developing a plan and monitoring/executing the activities that are necessary to complete a business analysis effort. Operates independently; has in-depth financial industry knowledge with knowledge of Investment Compliance, Portfolio Management, Trading and Operations
Key Responsibilities / Duties:
• To liaise between Compliance and IT and Data Management teams to provide deliverable across the project lifecycle with various Investment Compliance systems
• To elicit requirements from business stakeholder and perform root cause analysis
• To assist in project planning and scoping activities along with prioritizing requirements
• To document complete and accurate business models across affected areas including front-to-back (F2B) flows reflecting process, data and organization
• To configure the Charles River front end as per user specification. Configuration responsibilities include blotters, user provisioning, user and group profiles, stored queries, layouts and reference data
• To analyze data in Charles River and know how that data is represented in the database for orders, holdings, compliance rules etc.
• To perform data analysis by having the ability to query databases via SQL
• To document complete and accurate detailed requirements, use case models and performance specifications
• Analyzing data and converting it into metrics
• To effectively communicate requirements to development teams as part of knowledge transfer activities
• To support QA and UAT testing as necessary
• To create and deliver product and release trainings as appropriate
• To monitor production systems and actively manage future state/enhancement roadmaps
• To support issues resolution for production systems as necessary
• To provide guidance and deliver against appropriate development methodology (e.g. waterfall, iterative, agile)
• To actively manage and update analysis artifacts
• Perform troubleshooting analysis and resolution of critical applications and batch processes
• Coordinate with vendors to troubleshoot and resolve issues
• Coordinate and participate in testing for in-house and vendor developed software applications
• Work closely with business clients and other IT team members (located locally and abroad) to gather requirements, create detailed documentation, and develop and deliver solutions that automate their daily work
• Create target state process maps, narratives and procedures for in-scope processes
• Contribute to role descriptions, staffing requirements, training material and other operational readiness deliverables related to in-scope processes
• Develops a plan and executes the activities necessary to complete a business analysis effort: identifies stakeholders, conducts preliminary analysis to understand the business need and translates that into scope
• Selects the business analysis techniques that will be used to elicit and manage requirements
• Provides comprehensive consulting and leadership to team and stakeholders to identify and understand their needs, concerns, and environment/business in which they work. Conducts in-depth gap/impact analysis to clarify need.
• Provides assurance to stakeholder that their underlying needs are understood through continued communication, documentation, and verification
• Responsible for managing conflicts, issues and changes to requirements in order to ensure stakeholders and the project team agree on the solution scope:
• How requirements are communicated and how the knowledge obtained is maintained for future use
• Think strategically to further the goals of the enterprise
Qualifications
Work Experience / Knowledge:
• 3 to 5+ years’ experience working in an Information Technology environment as a business analyst
• Experience working in the financial services industry (buy side firms preferred)
• Experience developing and supporting applications
• Experience creating queries utilizing Microsoft SQL server and Oracle DBMS
• Experience with a formalized software development lifecycle process
Skills / Other Personal Attributes Required:
• Ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines, and concentrate on detailed information in a fast-paced demanding work environment
• A self-starter mentality with a strong work ethic and the ability to work well independently
• Superior interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact and communicate with other team members, managers and clients
• A strong investment management with equities and ideally fixed income experience is required and if the candidate has exposure to global markets (Asia & Europe) it would be preferred
• Successful candidates will have the ability to understand business issues and how they are represented at the process, systems and data level
• Strong verbal communication and inter-personal skills
• Strong SQL skills and can conduct data analysis independently
• Deep knowledge in investment management business processes and system interfaces
• Excellent analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills coupled with a strong work ethic
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to work efficiently in a high demand, team oriented and fast-paced environment
• Must be able to quickly adapt to new technologies and/or processes
• Driving development of end to end, cross functional operational process (potentially affecting broadly across the organization)
• Management/execution of multiple initiatives concurrently with aggressive timelines and strong dependencies
• Developing/modeling process with a globally distributed team
• In depth Banking operations experience working with payment systems or payment flows
• Knowledge of Operational Readiness and Change Management practices
• Clear understanding of Project Management Life Cycle is required
• Good communication skills (both written and verbal) and a high degree of credibility are imperative
• Successful candidates will be required to work effectively as team, and chart out an evolution
• Application and process strategy for the area
• The ability to operate at all levels within the organization and to explain the business both a conceptual and business process level
• Demonstrably strong motivation for improvement/process optimization, innovative thinking and an enthusiastic approach work with established business personnel
• Candidates will have a good understanding of the Asset Management market in terms of the future change and trends.
Working Conditions:
• Normal office environment with little exposure to noise, dust and temperatures.
• Normally works a regular schedule of hours, however hours may vary depending upon the project or initiative.
• Hours may include evenings and/or weekends.
