Job Description:
The Implementation Consultant has single ownership of the sold case process for all products and case sizes and manages the implementation process, beginning with receipt of the customer application and ending with the accurate customer output (bills, contracts, claims systems). This process also includes data gathering, benefit verification and negotiation and risk assessment and approval. Daily interaction with external customers (brokers and benefit administrators) is required to maintain and grow relationships.
The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of Sun Life's Underwriting practices and guidelines, the ability to assess risk components of new business and policy revision requests, and the ability to make recommendations to internal and external customers on potential business risks with the requested provisions.
Success in this role is achieved when the customer's expectations are met during the implementation process and transition to Sun Life policies and administrative procedures.
Job Responsibilities:
• Responsible for the accurate and timely implementation of new customers to Sun Life administrative platforms, policies and procedures
• Consult with brokers and customers to determine appropriate sold case materials and facilitate the accurate completion of sold case paperwork
• Analyze submission materials for accuracy and completeness; independently resolve issues raised about sold case plan design and structure by consulting with the broker, customer and/or underwriter;
• Review prior carrier booklet for plan design discrepancies, identify issues and negotiates final sold plan design with underwriting, broker and customer
• Review case against underwriting guidelines; identify any risk issues associated with final plan design and consult with Underwriting, when necessary, to negotiate final risk approval
• Responsible for accurately updating all sold case plan design, rate and employee information into the QPS system of record. This data feeds all downstream output so accuracy is critical - bills, contracts and claims systems
Skills:
• In-depth knowledge of Group Insurance products, risk management policies and administrative processes, including relevant Federal and State regulations
• Ability to think creatively to resolve complex or non-routine implementation issues
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience
• Strong customer focus
• Ability to work in a deadline oriented environment with multiple priorities
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrated, effective presentation skills
• Solid project management, negotiation, decision-making and problem solving skills and experience
• Experience in an Operations environment, including the ability to work in a team environment
• Ability to develop and maintain effective, professional business relationships with internal and external customers - understands how to conduct business with customers without negatively impacting Distribution relationships (Sales Reps/Brokers etc.)
• Demonstrated ability to work independently
• Understanding of specialized business and critical partnerships
• Communication/negotiation skills and influencing the customer are critical competencies
Requirements:
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in employee benefits or related industry; experience in underwriting and/or customer service a strong plus
• May need to support working hours and time zones of all Sun Life sales offices
• Bachelor's Degree preferred
