Manulife’s Wealth and Asset Management (WAM) businesses operate across our global footprint in the US, Canada and Asia. They include our Retail (Manulife Investments, John Hancock Investments, and Asian mutual fund businesses), Retirement (Retirement Plan Services, Group Retirement Solutions, and Asian pension businesses), and Institutional (Manulife Asset Management) businesses. One of Manulife’s key strategic themes is to build and integrate its global WAM businesses. Manulife’s Investment Division has two major businesses – management of the General Fund investments and Manulife Asset Management (MAM), a leading global third party asset management business. The invested assets are comprised of a broad range of investments including public and private bonds, public and private equities, mortgages, real estate, power and infrastructure, oil and gas, timberland and farmland properties
Summary:
Reporting to the WAM Manager, the Senior Financial Analyst will be responsible for the monthly production and analysis of financial results focusing on the John Hancock Investments business unit and select WAM legal entities from the Canadian Division. The incumbent will be a change agent responsible for leading initiatives to improve business processes within the Global WAM GA Accounting and Reporting Center. The role is focused on process improvement and the automation of manual accounting processes combined with the production of monthly financial results. This role requires an individual to collaborate with financial colleagues and business and IT professionals across the finance/accounting area to analyze and document business processes and execute on solutions that meet the needs of stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
• Responsible for the monthly preparation of financial results and account reconciliations including financial analysis and trending
• Maintain control documentation and prepare audit requests related to internal and external audit requirements
• Work independently or with management to identify complex operational business issues
• Develop solutions to automate existing manual processes within Global WAM
• Lead meetings with business stakeholders to analyze and document business processes and collect business requirements for new solutions
• Communicate requirements to members of IT to build robust application solutions as needed
• Complete end user and administrative documentation as needed
• Train business users on new application solutions and communicate process changes to all stakeholders
Qualifications:
• Undergraduate degree in Accounting/Finance
• Professional accounting designation (CPA) or MBA specialized in Accounting/Finance preferred.
• Five years of experience in a finance role; Wealth and Asset Management industry experience preferred
• Proven ability to thrive in a fast paced, high-performing, and collaborative team environment while managing multiple, constantly changing priorities and ad-hoc requests
• Knowledge and active use of general ledger reporting tools and systems
• Proven self-starter with the ability to work independently with less supervision
• Excels in a team environment interacting with both business and IT colleagues
• Ability to act as a change agent and execute process improvement solutions through collaboration, effective communication, and influencing skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills both written and verbal
