Responsibilities:
Principal is currently seeking top talent for an exciting opportunity within our Retirement & Income Solutions – Variable Annuities team as an Associate Actuary. This is a unique opportunity for the right person to utilize their strong communication, technical and financial analysis skills in a dynamic, team-focused environment. This role will lead the team responsible for the model-based GAAP and Statutory valuation of the Variable Annuities line of business.
Accountabilities:
• Lead GAAP valuation, including preparing and presenting financial reports for Business Unit management
• Oversee implementation of FASB accounting changes for market risk benefits.
• Lead Statutory valuation, including reserves (VACARVM) and capital (C3 Phase II)
• Oversee implementation of pending NAIC valuation changes
• Coordinate audit requests and requirements
• Communicate impacts of actuarial assumption review to GAAP and Statutory balances
• Complete industry and rating agency surveys
• Successful management of team workload with respect to timing, quality and actuarial standards.
• Lead direct reports in managing priority and development
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Actuarial Science or related field
• A Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) with 6+ years of actuarial experience
• Highly organized, innovative, problem-solver with excellent analytical and communication skills
• Ability to direct the work of others and assist in their education and development
• Knowledge of pertinent laws, regulations, the Actuarial Standards of Practice promulgated by the Actuarial Standards Board, and the Code of Professional Conduct of the American Academy of Actuaries and the Society of Actuaries
• The ability to communicate technical topics simply and effectively
• Modeling experience in ALFA or similar software package preferred
