Role Value Proposition:
The Creative Director of Communications Content and Design (CD) is an experienced communications and design professional who serves as a global business partner, providing strategic communications content and design support to senior business leaders.
The role is the design lead for digital, presentations, and multimedia under the guidance of the Vice President of Editorial Content, Storytelling & Employee Engagement. The primary responsibilities of the position include the day-to-day creation and management of internal communications content and ideation and development of creative executions in support of the Global Communications organization.
Key responsibilities of this role include communications strategy and execution in support of the company’s strategic agenda to enable the workforce of the future, enhance the employee experience and unleash the potential of the organization. In this role, the CD will provide strategic communication support for Global Communications by helping develop and execute integrated communications strategies that influence internal and external audiences. This includes ideas for how the Global Communications function can communicate with and engage the organization, as well as leading global efforts to develop communication content in support of key enterprise-wide priorities
Key Responsibilities:
• Leads a small team comprised of a single direct report, freelance talent and agency vendors to deliver high-quality design experiences for video, presentations, web, email, mobile applications and social media that support MetLife's brand values and initiatives.
• Facilitates the application of established user-experience design strategies, including information architecture, research, visual design and content strategy, to deliver useful and engaging communication solutions.
• Builds partnerships with other departments, including GTO, GBM, HR and US Business to implement creative solutions utilizing the brand design systems.
• Influence the creative process and mentor team in developing first-rate strategically aligned creative solutions.
• Assist the VP in assigning resources to projects, appropriately leveraging knowledge of individual skill sets to achieve best results.
• Manage team to adhere to department procedures, including project tracking, budget management, project closure and archiving.
• Perform team management duties including time-off and leave, mentoring, morale and performance management
• Ensure work clearly incorporates appropriate messaging, specifically the MetLife Company Story and brand platform.
• Provide one direct report with comprehensive and measurable development goals.
• Develop and execute a comprehensive communications strategy and cohesive plans on the corporate level across multiple internal channels: online, video, print, events.
• Partner with internal business groups to proactively lead and execute communication projects and campaigns that align with, articulate and support the company's key messages, business priorities and growth initiatives, as well as influence a positive culture and engaged employee base.
• Work across traditional and digital channels, as well as geographic regions, to tailor programs based on understanding of local business needs and priorities.
• Drive new approaches to deliver communications in more creative, efficient, and effective ways by challenging processes and recommending new approaches.
• Use measurement tools to assess the impact of communications programs to refine activities
Creative Responsibilities:
• Act as the primary designer on complex projects with responsibility for developing high-quality conceptual digital design solutions for Global Communications.
• Bring the Global Internal Content Strategy to life through storytelling that includes design, multi-media, data visualization and digital content
• Solve communication problems with design, clearly organizing messages to align with business objectives.
• Represent Global Communications in the presentation of preliminary work, internally and to business partners including the Executive Group members.
• Manage assets associated with a project, including photography, video, animation and illustration, according to department guidelines.
• Manage the closure of projects, ensuring all project assets are archived appropriately according to department best practices.
• Meet all budget and deadline requirements.
• Proactively identify and implement solutions to improve day-to-day work processes in the design area.
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
• Excellent Leadership skills with the ability to set goals based on department and enterprise strategy and inspire others to accomplish them.
• Exemplary conceptual and visual design competencies with the demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas in a manner that is easily understandable.
• Strong technical skills with the ability to generate digital-ready communications including video, podcasts, infographics.
• Power point design skills are a must
• Ability to exercise independent judgment and apply critical and strategic thinking to proactively make sound business decisions.
• Excellent command of formats, typography, graphics and layout.
• Advanced knowledge of digital production.
• Understands components, cycle times and production/distribution requirements and can manage to project timelines.
• Solid understanding of MetLife’s businesses so design and production decisions are made in the context of the expected business outcome
Required:
• 10+ years professional experience in graphic design and multimedia.
• Formal education in design (BA or BFA degree) or equivalent
• Visual and conceptual design decisions impact overall effectiveness of communication.
• Specifications and visual/conceptual solutions impact project cost
