About Barclaycard
Barclaycard have a wealth of payment solutions and have been leaders in this space for the last 50 years. In recent years Barclaycard have developed a multitude of solutions to meet the needs of our customers and partners. These solutions range from payment gateways and acquiring to value added services such as fraud and security and contactless. We are known as the payment leader in the UK and are now looking to expand our footprint into the US market. Due to the Barclays brand being more prominent in North America, we will be pushing out our offering in the Barclays brand, but using the payment expertise we have at Barclaycard to help really define our proposition to market.
About BPS Marketing
The BPS Marketing Team is a critical function in Barclays International, accountable for marketing strategy and execution that is fully aligned to the business strategy. The team serves the Barclaycard UK business market and is now looking to extend that offering into the US market.
The marketing team has a responsibility for implementing and executing the brand strategy for Barclaycard Business customers and clients and in the US under the Barclays brand.
We are experts in marketing, supporting the business in a variety of disciplines: Marketing strategy, communications, events, editorial and social media.
Currently the BPS marketing function consists of 14 FTE and is responsible for helping to achieve commercial and brand targets whilst driving efficiencies and effectiveness.
The team is part of the wider Cards and Payments business marketing team led by Alisa Copeman which includes functions across digital capabilities and our other business areas Barclaycard Commercial Payments (BCP) and supporting Barclays Partner Finance (BPF).
Overall Purpose of role
• Develop a marketing plan against the overall strategic marketing objectives for BPS and for the US
• Ensure campaign execution hits all commercial targets and is of a high standard
• Build strong relationships with the key business stakeholders (Barclaycard and Barclays), agencies and brand team
• Ensure that all marketing activity can show a specific ROI
• Work closely with the UK marketing team to ensure activity can be aligned to broader themes and audiences
• Be involved in the wider development of a BPS value proposition, ensuring the right focus is brought out for the US market
Your Role
• Strategic marketing planning and delivery
• Lead the US BPS Marketing function in the US
• Accountable for marketing ROI off the back of marketing activities that are led from the US
• Financial accountability of the marketing budget, keeping close control of spend across the short term and mid-term planning process (STP and MTP)
• Owning the relationships with key creative and media agencies in the US. Additionally, building relationships across all business areas in the US space, specifically the Investment and Corporate Bank
Stakeholder Management and Leadership
• Develop relationships with key colleagues and stakeholders across the nominated business and Barclaycard/Barclays marketing teams in the US and UK
• Work closely with strategic partner agencies to develop their knowledge and understanding of our strategic direction, brand and customers
• Develop and manage relationships with key suppliers to drive cost efficiencies, process and performance enhancements across our Marketing activity
Decision-making and Problem Solving
• Extensive knowledge and experience of translating business objectives into marketing strategies and plans
• Detailed knowledge and experience of marketing across multiple media/routes to market and application of media-neutral planning
• Comprehensive understanding of different marketing disciplines
• Strong understanding of how market and customer insight can be used to aid development of strategic and tactical plans
• Ability to work with and influence senior colleagues across different business functions - not afraid to challenge the “norm” and constructively challenge stakeholders
• Proven ability of effectively managing cross-functional project teams across the organization
• Good planning and organizational skills - managing priorities across a range of projects/campaigns to ensure timely delivery
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
Risk and Control Objective
Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards.
Basic Qualifications/Skills (Must be quantifiable)
• 8+ years of proven experience developing best-in-class marketing strategies and plans (agency or client side)
• 8+ years of experience in channel marketing across multiple routes to market with a real understanding of the US market
Preferred Qualifications/Skills
• Ideally over 10 years’ marketing experience, specifically in a payments or financial services background
• Strong evidence of managing partner agencies at a senior level (creative and media)
• Proven experience of budget management
• Strong understanding of branding principles and evidence of application of this
