As a Senior Staff Accountant in the Variable Product Accounting (“VPA”) group, the candidate will perform daily trading, reconciliation and settlement processes related to the various variable annuity and variable universal life products offered across all of the AIG companies. The work hours will vary depending on the changing workload, but will begin no later than 6 AM each day the New York Stock Exchange is open and will be subject to hourly deadlines. The candidate will be required to have a full and in depth understanding of the various systems and trading platforms utilized by the Variable Accounting group.
As a Leader, you are respected for your deep technical expertise and/or ability to oversee programs and processes. You balance the needs of multiple stakeholders, making sound decisions using data, analysis, experience, and judgment, along with a risk mindset. Ultimately, you take ownership for key outcomes.
The candidate must have intermediate to advanced Excel skills and be able to maintain and modify existing complex spreadsheets used for reconciliation and reporting. The candidate will also have duties completing monthly analysis and reconciliations for various audit groups and ad-hoc requests from management. The key to success in this position is exhibiting exceptional computer skills and having the ability to embrace change while constantly searching for efficiency.
Organization Structure:
This position reports to the Vice President in the AIG L&R Accounting Operations department. This position works closely with other areas within VPA, Financial Reporting, Administration Operations, and Legal.
Performance Objectives:
• Quickly develop expertise in the different systems utilized by the Variable Accounting department. Cross-train and become proficient with the daily duties of the Trading staff to understand the data flow required for reconciliations and journal preparation.
• Meet rigid reporting deadlines set by corporate management, internal management, external auditors and other outside customers with no errors.
• Maintain accurate and well-documented work papers that support all work produced by both you and your staff.
• Complete Ad Hoc projects as requested
Position Requirements
The ideal candidate should have:
• 6 - 9 years trading of variable product accounting and financial systems experience
• Ability to work from 7am until point of completion of the daily trading duties, which could include over-time
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
• Ability to analyze data and research technical, accounting and financial issues
• Experience working in a large company environment, insurance, mutual fund, or financial systems industry
