Job Description:
The job's focus is on coordinating, reviewing, and providing actuarial challenge for key US Business Group financial metrics, including Value of New Business, Source of Earnings, Goodwill and Dynamic Capital Adequacy Testing. Relevant information is gathered from the business units, results are analyzed to ensure reasonableness, actuarial soundness, and compliance with relevant policies and guidelines. Final reports are then submitted in the required format to the Corporate office, regulators, auditors, and other parties.
Major Accountabilities:
Serve as the US Business Group coordinator for the annual Dynamic Capital Adequacy Testing. Manage all aspect of the project, including building a detailed schedule of deliverables, facilitating creation of the Local Scenario, liaising with the corporate office, collecting results from the business units, reviewing and challenging them from the actuarial soundness standpoint, ensuring compliance with the policies and guidelines, and preparing a report on behalf of the US Business Group. Ensure consistency of the presented information with other published sources.
Fulfill responsibilities of the Second Line of Defense (in the Three Lines of Defense framework) with respect to Value of New Business, Source of Earnings, and Goodwill reporting. Work with business units on understanding their results; ensure completeness of documentation and compliance with the relevant Actuarial Guidelines. Issue Second Line challenge reports as required. Prepare supporting materials to obtain quarterly attestations from the Business Group Chief Actuary. Communicate with external auditors and reviewers.
The incumbent will also be the lead modelling actuary for the US Surplus segments (GGY AXIS platform.) They will collaborate with multiple teams across the US division to help meet the Business Plan, DCAT and the quarterly capital deliverables for these segments.
Build tools to enhance the Product Development and Pricing oversight function.
Be a leader within the broader central actuarial function. Distribute work load commensurate with the actuarial students’ career growth objectives, provide training and create a supportive work environment.
Qualifications:
FSA
5+ years of experience
• Strong communication skills, oral and written
• Valuation and financial reporting experience
• Ability to critically review and challenge results
• Strong business acumen
• Effective influence management skills
• GGY AXIS Experience a plus
• Canadian GAAP / IFRS experience a plus
• NAIC experience a plus
Individual should have very strong problem solving abilities in complex financial systems and reporting environments. Expectation is person will be expert in ability to identify and implement solutions to difficult financial reporting needs based on system ability and constraints
