Position Overview

The VP, Asset Liability Management will collaborate in building and managing all aspects of the Asset/Liability Management (ALM) strategy and process at RGA globally. Create, coordinate and implement state of the art ALM strategies and tools to identify both qualitative and quantitative properties of all liabilities so that appropriate investment guidelines and strategies can be developed. Enhance market risk governance through leadership in various committees including: chair of the ALM Working Group.
Responsibilities
• Strategic Asset Allocation –
a.) Develop and present recommendations on actions that will increase RGA’s value through optimized asset allocation, both globally and at the business segment level.
• Market Risk Analysis –
a.) Assist in developing and leading implementation of key metrics and analysis for assessing market risk throughout the RGA Enterprise including: interest rate, inflation, credit default, currency, real estate and equity risks. Also, take into consideration constraints including: liquidity, capital requirements, and net income. Includes interest rate PBEC metric calculation and analysis process and developing improvements.
b.) Develop reporting tools to communicate key market risk metrics throughout the RGA enterprise including senior management, board, rating agencies, regulators, etc.
c.) Partner with Investments and business segments in identifying opportunities for managing market risk exposures with alternative portfolios, asset classes, derivatives, etc.
d.) Partner with business units to develop, review and integrate the BU ALM analysis with the global ALM program and identify global risk offsets.
• Asset Projection Process –
a.) Provides oversight and strategic direction to asset market value, cash flow and investment income projections required by RGA business segments or functions. This includes: financial reporting, asset liability management, cash flow testing, strategic asset allocation, collateral sensitivities, embedded value, ORSA and annual plan.
b.) Lead and coordinate development of enterprise-wide analysis and projection tools to support ALM strategy. Responsible for improvements to and proper functioning of the Prophet asset projection process and ensuring functionality meets RGA’s needs.
• Risk Governance –
a.) Chair of the enterprise-wide ALM Working Group which will identify opportunities and make proposals to enhance value through effective management of our market risks.
b.) Assist in identifying best practices standards and methods for management of market risks.
Requirements
Education and Experience
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics or related field
• 10+ years of insurance industry experience
• 3+ years of related ALM and/or capital markets experience
• Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA)
Preferred:
• CFA or advanced degrees
• 7+ years of related ALM and/or capital markets experience
• Experience leading teams of direct and indirect reports
• Experience with Prophet, BlackRock, Intex, ADCo
Skills and Abilities
Required:
• Highly collaborative and positive approach, with strong BU CRO-level consultative and influencing skills.
• Technical skills related to simulation of asset and liability cash flows, capital markets and asset management strategies.
• Results-oriented with the ability to emphasize practical application and tangible value creation over theory or process.
• Ability to be flexible in understanding and assimilating alternate views and working with a variety of constituents with the potential to implement change, ensuring understanding, participation and ownership by key stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and allocate time appropriately among them including the ability to delegate key areas of responsibility.
• Articulate, with advanced oral and written communication skills.
• Leads and mentors a team and creates a positive and productive working environment with a culture of accountability and performance excellence.
• Accuracy and attention to detail.
• Knowledge of US Statutory, Risk Based Capital (RBC), US GAAP, and Economic Capital models.
