About the Job:
The Credit Review Specialist is part of the Credit Review Team functioning as an independent second line of defense reporting directly to the SVP, Head of Credit Review. The Credit Review Specialist will conduct a systematic review of commercial, small business, specialty or consumer loan portfolios to determine the accuracy of risk identification in the loan portfolio as well as the adequacy of documentation, administration, credit quality and loan performance. In addition, the Credit Review Specialist will prepare individual loan officer reports, business unit reports and other reports related to other bank wide credit risk related issues.
General Responsibilities Include:
Planning:
• Participate in the annual plan process
• Help evaluate portfolio for loan sampling and selection
Loan Approval:
• Ensure loan underwriting standards adhere to Wintrust policy and procedures
• Ensure policy exceptions are appropriate and mitigated effectively
• Identify any noticeable trends in policy exceptions and their mitigants
Loan Monitoring:
• Documentation:
◦ Review loan documentation for adherence to Wintrust policy and procedure and to all relevant law and regulations
◦ Ensure loan is documented in accordance with credit approval
◦ Review collateral documentation to ensure loan is properly secured and in conformance with loan approval
• Administration:
◦ Ability to manage or lead internal loan review engagements
◦ Ensure consistent application of bank wide risk policy as well as credit review policies and procedures
◦ Ensure portfolio and the individual loans identified for testing are properly monitored with appropriate notation of exceptions where information is missing.
◦ Review follow up and due diligence of financial statement, documentation, covenant, and other administrative exceptions for adherence to Wintrust policy and procedure.
◦ Review credit exceptions for continued appropriateness and mitigation
◦ Perform continuous monitoring of assigned portfolios
◦ Work with senior management to regularly update the loan review policies and procedures
• Risk Assessment:
◦ Participate in the overall assessment of portfolio credit quality
◦ Assess risk rating accuracy, timeliness of grade changes and appropriateness of supporting rationale
◦ Ensure adversely classified assets are identified and have appropriate action plans in place
• Communication:
◦ Effectively listen and communicate with loan officers, business unit managers, senior Wintrust leadership, appropriate internal committees, external auditors and all regulatory bodies
• Reporting:
◦ Prepare loan officer reports for individual credits reviewed
◦ Prepare manager report for individual business unit reviewed
◦ Assist with preparation and presentation of quarterly review to appropriate business units and internal committees
◦ Assist with reporting to help in ALLL determination and the Shared National Credit review process
◦ Assist in the preparation of special reports that identify risk management issues with corresponding corrective action
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
• Experienced credit professional with Three+, Five+, or Ten+ years of commercial credit experience, preferably with a background in commercial credit underwriting , credit risk management or loan/credit review
• Successful completion of a formal credit training program
• Previous loan/credit review experience
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related discipline
• Strong credit analytical skills and credit process knowledge.
• Knowledge and experience with loan/credit risk management practices
• Knowledge of the banking industry and regulatory guidelines as they relate to credit review and credit risk management practices
• Proven track record of establishing a proactive, constructive dialogue and partnering with professionals internally and externally
• Flexibility to travel locally as required
