Paralegal Sr.
Under minimal direction, provides daily support to the Legal Department attorneys specializing in employment law who primarily partner with the Bank's Human Resources Segment in connection with providing counsel and advice related to employment law issues.
Specific duties may include:
• Administering and tracking litigation holds for all employment-related matters
• Preparing basic correspondence and legal documents including agency matter notices of appearance, extension requests, etc.
• Independently and in partnership with HR, gathering and organizing employment records and other documents needed in employment matters including managing document assembly and the production process
• Handling some of the tasks associated with settlement agreements (tax forms, signatures, etc.) including managing the process of requesting and obtaining checks and facilitating delivery
• Conducting basic factual (e.g., court docket review, etc.) and legal research including monitoring some state and local law developments and changes related to employment laws that impact the Bank
• Preparing standard reminder letters related to post-employment restrictive covenants, gathering the relevant supporting documentation including agreements, basic facts, etc. and requesting that IT review electronic activity, etc.
• Tracking and updating employment matters for lawyers
• Opening and maintaining hard copy case files and electronic information in a case management database related to employment matters
• Coordinating requests from procurement related to Master Services Agreements including, identifying relevant provisions and ensuring timely responses
• Analyzing and organizing data related to reductions-in-force and other employment-related matters
• Supporting internal and external employment law counsel as needed
• Providing routine calendaring assistance using Outlook (e.g., litigation due dates, scheduling meetings, etc.)
• Monitoring on-going matter activity and pending deadlines in employment litigation cases and other employment matters
• Performing administrative tasks as requested
• Other duties that may be assigned from time to time
Basic Qualifications:
• Associate's degree or in lieu of an Associate's degree, must have formal paralegal training
• Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a support role in a corporate environment or in a law firm.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior employment law experience preferred
• Ability to work independently with limited direction and set work priorities that conform to established standards
• Exercise independent judgment towards matter preparation and initiate contact with clients, attorneys and other involved parties
• Team player that has ability to work with other team members and help influence and guide other Bank colleagues
• Excellent interpersonal skills and judgment (including ability to interface with all levels of colleagues)
• Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe and other legal research tools
• Proven analytical and organizational skills
• Ability to meet all deadlines as assigned and respond quickly in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive and professional demeanor and producing high-quality work product
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Familiarity with enterprise legal management tools
• Proficiency with Thomson Reuters Legal Tracker, or similar case management database is a plus
• Paralegal certificate
