JOB INFORMATION
Reporting to the Director, Operational Risk in the Finance division, this position leads the comprehensive assessment of management's consideration of fraud risk in financial reporting. This position will design the control, establish an execution plan within the necessary financial reporting time frame, execute the assessment, and report the results to management. Serve as day-to-day project operational risk leader to identify operational and financial statement risks and assess potential impact of risks on the organization,including the impact of the control environment to mitigate the risk. Applies a risk-based approach to develop and adjust future scoping and risk assessment plans as appropriate and determine areas requiring additional analysis.
KEY JOB FUNCTIONS
• Design, plan, execute and report results of management?s comprehensive annual assessment of fraud risk in financial reporting. Consolidate results from the enterprise-wide assessment of fraud in financial risk to identify compelling motives, directional trends, and build the narrative for delivery to senior management. Ensure assessment reports are completed and ready for audit in advance of required deadlines.
• Identify officers, directors and process owners across the company responsible for processes that result in a fraud risk to the financial statements. Initiate and manage timely and adequate responses to fraud assessment questionnaires. Review responses and follow up with responsible parties to ensure understanding of changes to fraud risk profile. Escalates issues to Finance or Compliance and Ethics management, as needed, to ensure adequate, reasonable, and timely responses.
• Educates officers and other stakeholders on assessment processes. Explains the execution of the fraud assessment procedures to internal and external auditors as needed.
• Generate final report of assessment responses and ensure appropriate review by stakeholders in Finance, Internal Audit, Compliance and Ethics. Assist in presentation and reporting of final report to senior management.
• Serve as day-to-day project operational risk leader for projects (outside of fraud assessment period) ensuring they are completed on-time, within scope and with adequate assessment of controls and risks and identification of any gaps. Identify operational and financial statement risks and assess potential impact of risks on the organization,including the impact of the control environment to mitigate the risk. Applies a risk-based approach to develop and adjust future scoping and risk assessment plans as appropriate and determine areas requiring additional analysis.
• Provide day-to-day project management oversight of other Risk and Controls analysts (including project guidance and informal coaching). Conduct first level review of work and documentation. Communicate project plan and risks to relevant stakeholders; inspire and motivate team members to achieve results.
• Assist with coordinating and administering assignments, monitoring team progress and managing budgets and schedules.
• Build and maintain relationships with business partners at the SVP, VP, Director, manager and staff levels. Provide advice and share knowledge with business partner SVP, VP, Directors and managers to strengthen governance, risk and control environments, as appropriate.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent required
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
• 8+ years of related experience
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
• 8+ years of related experience such as accounting, risk assessment, audit, risk management, internal control, etc
• Strong project management skills including the ability to manage multiple tasks, self-prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines, a must
• Knowledge of materiality as it relates to risk management in financial reporting; understanding of Sarbanes-Oxley
• Understanding of fraud risk and controls
• Demonstrated ability to lead and influence small teams
• Ability to interact effectively throughout the organization, develop cooperative relationships, and collect information
• Ability to be flexible, multitask, and re-prioritize work as the needs of the business change
• Demonstrated knowledge of the mortgage industry and Fannie Mae's business operations as it applies to fraud or risk assessments highly preferred
