The Research Lead provides valuable research services to Vanguard’s marketing and business teams to help them improve client experiences and grow Vanguard’s business. This role includes consulting with business partners, managing research vendors, developing research approaches, conducting/ managing research, developing insights and recommendations, and presenting to senior leaders.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Manages research for complex projects with ambiguous objectives.
2. Serves as consultant to internal clients to identify business objectives and determine research methods to answer these business questions. Collaborates with marketing and business leaders to understand strategic needs and develop appropriate research objectives and success measures.
3. Develops research approach and manages project timelines, scope, and deliverables. Communicates approach to stakeholders and gains necessary buy-in. Develops a communication plan for stakeholders covering each stage of the project. Identifies stakeholders across the enterprise with whom to share the research.
4. Selects and manages vendors as needed, identifying deliverables, conducting recruiting, collaborating on research, and ensuring accuracy and completeness of the deliverables. Manages the business line budget for studies under his/her direction and coordinates in a timely manner with internal partners.
5. Develops complex research materials which may include screeners, recruiting communications, interview guides, surveys/questionnaires, and stimuli. Secures approval from internal partners for these materials as needed.
6. Conducts research or partners with a vendor to conduct using qualitative and quantitative methods as appropriate. Conducts research using in person, phone, and online channels. Examples of research methods may include client interviews, contextual observations, focus groups, complex surveys, MaxDiff, conjoint analysis, and segmentation. Stays current with latest research methods.
7. Analyzes research data and synthesizes with other research and analytics insights. Develops research findings and recommendations based on this synthesis. Works with Marketing and business partners to ensure recommendations are actionable and aligned with business priorities. Stays current on trends and competitive offerings in financial services. Incorporates insights from these trends into research findings and recommendations.
8. Socializes research findings and recommendations with stakeholders. Gains buy-in from key decision makers for recommendations. Leads ongoing discussions with stakeholders and senior leaders to represent end client perspective during decision making process.
9. Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Undergraduate degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree preferred (i.e. MBA or Masters in related fields such as marketing, market research, social sciences, human-computer interaction, human factors/usability).
• Minimum of seven years of related work experience, including successfully managing a variety of projects from beginning to end.
• Excellent verbal, written and presentation/communication skills. Accustomed to consulting with and influencing senior leaders. Demonstrated skills in negotiation, feedback, and change management.
• Experience conducting research using in person, phone, and online channels. Strong interview and facilitation skills, including ability to lead focus groups is a plus. Experience with design thinking research is preferred.
• Proven analytical and problem solving skills.
• Flexibility, judgment, and time management skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities. Ability to work quickly and independently with attention to detail and sensitivity to deadlines.
• Ability to work on a multi-disciplinary team.
• Knowledge of the financial services industry is preferred.
• Knowledge of current versions of the following products:
• Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and related databases.
• Experience with SAS or SPSS preferred.
