Liberty Mutual Insurance Actuaries use their analytical talents to resolve thought-provoking business problems and bring value to our Customers. They work in a collaborative and dynamic work environment where the challenges are ongoing. Our Actuaries regularly make recommendations to management and are partners in the decision making process. They provide business advice and support senior management by providing analysis critical to the key functions of our business.
Many of our Actuarial Students began their Liberty Mutual Insurance careers as Actuarial Interns!
Actuarial Interns are an important part of our Development Program. Our Interns perform meaningful work in an environment that supports their learning. Actuarial Interns have assignments in many of our lines of business, as well as our Corporate Office. They learn about Personal and Commercial products while working in a variety of disciplines such as financial reporting, ratemaking, reinsurance, research, reserving, underwriting, etc.
At Liberty Mutual Insurance, our Actuarial Interns:
• Gain knowledge about the insurance business and acquire actuarial experience
• Assist in the preparation of rate level indications
• Perform various actuarial analyses under supervision
• Attend formal training where they learn key actuarial concepts
• Have an Actuarial Student 'Buddy' to answer questions, help guide them in their first days, and support them during their Internship
• Become a member of our highly engaged and vibrant Actuarial community
• Interact with interns in other functional areas during summer programming
Qualifications
• Proven math and analytical skills, as normally acquired through the pursuit of a bachelors degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Actuarial Science, or related field
• A record of academic achievement, including a GPA of at least a 3.0
• Actuarial Exam experience is not required, but is preferred
• Solid oral / written communication skills
• Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment as well as independently
• Ability to problem solve
• MS Office proficiency, with Excel and SAS skills preferred; programming skills are desirable
