Lead the Compensation team in support of business, Human Capital and Total Rewards objectives. Provide compensation expertise, counsel and solutions that support TCF’s talent strategy to attract, motivate and retain an engaged workforce while aligning with Total Rewards philosophies and guiding principles. Manage the development, execution, implementation, communication and administration of competitive and cost-effective compensation programs, policies and processes.
Major Areas of Accountability
• Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for Compensation initiatives that balances business needs with resources and aligns with overarching business, Human Capital and Total Rewards strategies and priorities.
• Consult with Human Capital and business stakeholders in the design and implementation of market competitive, cost-effective compensation strategies and programs based on organization requirements, internal and external pay practices and employee feedback. Programs include short and long term variable pay.
• Provide supervision and development to team members.
• Drive the execution of multiple enterprise projects while ensuring operational needs are met.
• Challenge current practice and look for ways to streamline and improve processes and ensure compliance.
• Maintain relevance and governance of job architecture and infrastructure, pay grades and associated tools and resources.
• Lead the development of job evaluation and market pricing tools, training and communications that align to the TCF brand and move resources and decision making closer to managers and Human Capital teams.
• In partnership with the business and Human Capital Partners, consult on business needs, including reviewing organization structures and jobs, conducting job evaluations and performing compensation analyses.
• Provide oversight to the compensation survey submission process.
• Ensure compensation programs and processes are in compliance with legislative regulations and requirements.
• Support Total Rewards leader on executive compensation work.
• Design sales compensation strategies and programs based on business need and role.
• Balance individual business needs with an enterprise perspective.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Required:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Finance, Business or related field
Preferred:
• CCP or PHR Certification
• MAHRIR or MBA in Finance, Business or related field
Required Work Experience / Skills
• 10 years of increasing experience in Compensation or a related HR field, including experience with job evaluation, market pricing, developing compensation programs and tools, incentive plan design, sales compensation and executive compensation.
• 2+ years supervisory/leadership.
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
• Proven experience developing compensation solutions to meet varying business needs.
• Excellent organizational, analytical and problem solving skills.
• Ability to explain complex information in a user friendly manner, with the ability to influence and negotiate.
• Experience working with all levels of management, including senior executives, with strong presentation skills.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
• Proven experience developing relationships at all levels across the organization.
• Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information.
Preferred Work Experience / Skills
• Experience working in the financial services industry.
• Experience designing complex incentive plans, including sales incentive programs.
• Experience with executive compensation design and programs in a public company.
• Strong understanding of HR processes and data, including basic understanding of HRIS database design, structure and functions.
Supervisory Responsibilities
• Perform supervisory functions, including but not limited to, making employment decisions regarding hiring, promoting, demoting and terminating, conducting performance appraisals and coaching and developing staff.
