The Director of EB Marketing Strategy and Sales Enablement will partner with Employee Benefits (EB) business leaders to understand their needs and objectives and lead development and execution of marketing plans to achieve business objectives. This includes developing and executing on near-term plans as well as working on a 1-2-year planning horizon to understand and proactively address emerging market opportunities and/or business needs across all EB’s business lines.
This leader serves as the account director in managing the relationship between Marketing and EB while directly leading and coaching a team of direct reports made up of program managers responsible for delivering results on new and established marketing and sales support programs. This person will lead and manage the marketing planning process for EB with cross-functional teams to determine the right strategies and marketing channel mix aligned to achieve business objectives. They will lead their team in collaboration with cross functional teams to deliver results on sales support programs while working to continuously improve and evolve foundation programs and look for new opportunities to support the sales organization and deliver value for EB businesses.
This role will help to frame the overall messaging and story for EB with support from the Marketing Communications team and in alignment with sales and service leaders, prioritize marketing programs and initiatives, establish success metrics, write or review strategic programs and creative briefs to inform execution of foundational and new marketing and sales support programs.
This leader is part of the leadership team in Marketing and responsible for ensuring alignment with senior leadership and peer leaders’ expectations, values and vision.
Responsibilities
Acts as a primary point of contact for the marketing organization with EB stakeholders. Partners with EB stakeholders, senior management in Marketing and cross functional teams to lead development of strategic marketing plans and tactics for EB businesses to achieve both short and long-term objectives with a focus on 12-24 months. Fosters excellent business unit relationships and collaboration, partners to understand their needs and objectives. Accountable for translating business needs into actionable marketing strategies and plans.
• Leads planning process for EB including recommending strategies and facilitating planning process with internal teams and our marketing agency as applicable.
• Balances short-term and long-term needs of the EB business unit. Helps determine prioritization of all new requests and established programs.
• Identifies marketing trends and/or industry issues that will have an impact on the EB marketing strategies and creates programs or initiatives to take advantage of or leverage these trends.
• Communicates Marketing plans and results to business unit leaders. Supervises and negotiates the adjustment and alignment of plans with business unit leaders. Communicates complex ideas, anticipates and addresses potential objections.
• Identifies and drives alignment on metrics to measure impact of the marketing strategies and tactics. Guides optimization of programs.
Leads, manages and coaches a team of direct reports and employs strong collaboration with cross functional team members responsible for end-to-end development, production and maintenance of a variety of marketing and sales enablement programs and capabilities to support sales organization.
• Collaborates with peer leaders and team members of cross-functional team to execute against strategic plans and specific initiatives and programs that deliver on the marketing strategy to support EB business objectives.
• Leads own team and partners with peer managers in leading cross functional teams to deliver against these established marketing plans as well as respond appropriately to unknowns that surface. These programs and initiatives may include sales training, sales communications, sales support portal, trade & customized events, sales collateral and tools, advertising, webinars, direct mailings, newsletters, microsites, presentations, etc.
• Works with the Marketing Communications team to create MarCom and Thought Leadership strategy and reviews their progress and alignment to business and marketing goals and objectives.
• Reports on progress against plans and budget (programs and projects) on a regular basis.
• Establishes clear team and individual goals for direct reports aligned to marketing plans and individual development plans.
Reviews progress against plans with external resources and internal Marketing teams to ensure alignment with objectives, strategies, metrics, timing, and budget.
• Serves as the client voice with internal and agency teams to ensure execution matches the client’s need.
Qualifications
Degree in Business, Marketing or related field. Master’s Degree a plus.
10+ years’ experience in strategic marketing or marketing communications and/or business to business sales or related experience.
3-5 years in insurance industry preferred.
Demonstrated expertise in developing marketing strategies and integrated marketing communications plans.
Demonstrated skills in strategic thinking, analysis, project management, vendor management, team building & coaching, relationship building and negotiation.
Understands and has had experience creating content marketing, social media marketing and advertising programs.
Proven experience in leading and facilitating cross functional teams and exercising influence with those where no reporting relationship exists.
Ability to act as a thought leader across departments and levels, including senior management. Ability to present to and influence small and large audiences including peers and senior leadership.
Exceptional written and oral communications skills.
Excellent market, customer, and business analysis skills.
Technical skills are based on job area and could include skills in promotion/collateral design, brand management, print production, web development, industry legal & compliance principles, advertising, operational process design and project management.
