Operational Risk Analyst
Position Summary:
The Governance, ORM, and Risk Operations Analyst will help develop and work towards facilitating the ongoing implementation and execution of Global Investment Risk Management (GIRM) programs and processes with a particular focus on governance, operational risk, and investment risk operations. Reporting to the GIRM Head of Operational Risk as part of the Global Investments organization, the Analyst’s primary client will be the Global Investments line of business, and will also support key Aflac Inc. Global Risk Management operations and initiatives, as well as Finance line of business risk programs when applicable The candidate is expected to have a solid understanding of process, risk and control design concepts and governance from an operational risk management and/or audit/COSO perspective, as well as exposure to investment front, middle, back office and/or accounting processes and requirements. This position requires the ability and flexibility to interact and collaborate with all levels of management, as well as execute routine (e.g. risk control self-assessment) and non-routine (e.g. investment initiatives independent review) risk management processes.
Key Relationships:
Reports To: Head of Operational Risk – GIRM
Risk Interactions: GIRM Quantitative Analytics; GRM Columbus; Japan Risk; for key initiatives – team lead, team contributor; individual contributor depending on nature and scope of initiative
Business Interactions: Global Investments team; Finance (Accounting/Treasury/Tax); Compliance; Information Security; Audit, Strategic Sourcing and other key stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
Operational Risk Management
• Support and facilitate the maturation and implementation of the GRM ORM framework, with a particular focus on Global Investments execution
• Execute ORM RCSA, KRI, Loss Event, Risk Response and Reporting programs
• Facilitate the execution of vendor risk and model risk programs for the NY office
• Support the update of applicable ORM policies and committee / regulatory communications where applicable
Global Investments (GI) Risk Operations
• Monitor, consult upon, and update where applicable (i.e. risk limit policy matters) GI policies and procedures
• Develop and apply an end to end understanding of GI processes, controls and limits for the application of ORM and limit monitoring programs
• Support independent advisory and governance activities for key GI initiatives (e.g. execution of new asset class mandates)
• Provide independent governance and risk monitoring for investments specific operational risks (e.g. trade practices; external managers)
Global Investments (GI) Risk Reporting
• Design and develop reports and presentations regarding operational investment risk matters for management and committee governance
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Accounting or related field
• Solid analytical and critical thinking skills with demonstrated communication and executive level presentation skills
• Ability to execute on goals, prioritize and meet deadlines
• Medium to Advanced Quantitative and Excel skills
• Self-motivated, yet accustomed to working and collaborating in a team environment
• Financial Services industry experience required (insurance preferred)
• minimum of 1 year audit, Enterprise Risk Management or Operational Risk Management, and/or investments operations / investments accounting / audit experience
• MBA, CPA or CFA a plus
