Manager, NAIC Reporting Data Steward
Job Summary:
This role will report to the VP, Deputy Appointed Actuary John Hancock with matrix reporting to line actuaries for Life, LTC and Annuities, as well as the Divisional Reporting Steward. The incumbent will function as part of the NAIC valuation team with a focus on managing QlikView tools to analyze data and supporting the standardization of financial reporting.
This role will also provide a good opportunity to be central in the transformation of valuation processes, to understand NAIC accounting and actuarial concepts as well as to work collaboratively with individuals within the team and other functions of the company. The incumbent will further be expected to coach other team members in using QlikView tools.
Key Responsibilities
• The incumbent will lead a small team responsible for managing data used in NAIC financial reporting by designing, developing and maintaining tools in QlikView to support actuarial analytics and automate reporting
• Facilitate and support the implementation of new standardized valuation and reporting processes.
• Support the regular and quarter-end reporting process with ad-hoc analysis and QlikView solutions
• Liaise and collaborate with the Systems team to define data requirements and apply best practices
• Provide education to develop expertise in the actuarial reporting functions on QlikView and tools for data management and analysis
Job Requirements (Knowledge/Skills/Competencies):
• Strong technical skills and interest in developing data tools
• Quantitative problem-solving skills and business knowledge to identify most optimal data structure
• Out-of-the-box thinking and an aptitude for process improvements, adapt to changes
• Ability to manage competing priorities
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to deal with various audiences
Education/Professional Experience
• Experience in working with data
• Knowledge of reporting concepts, especially reserving and source of earnings reporting
• QlikView knowledge and actuarial background are assets
