Hancock Natural Resource Group, Inc. (HNRG) founded in 1985, is a registered investment adviser and wholly owned subsidiary of Manulife Financial Corporation. HNRG is based in Boston, Massachusetts and is comprised of two core businesses; Hancock Timber Resource Group (HTRG) which develops and manages timberland investments and Hancock Agricultural Investment Group (HAIG) which develops and manages farmland investments. As of June 30, 2018, HNRG managed USD 14.4 billion of timberland and farmland, compromising over 6.3 million acres located in the United States, Canada, and Australia. HNRG's Client Reporting Group is responsible for the preparation of client financial reports in accordance with GAAP, maintenance of systems and accounting records, client general ledgers, internal and external financial reporting, FASB accounting compliance, tax and REIT compliance, GIPS performance measurement compliance, cash management, customer service, supporting other business units on projects, and the establishment, review and adherence to internal controls.
Job Title: Staff Accountant T7
This is an entry-level position based in Boston, MA.
Key responsibilities:
• Coordinate and prepare cash transfers to and from our property managers on a weekly, or as needed, basis
• Coordinate payment of client expenses to internal and external recipients
• Monitor cash activity of client bank accounts
• Upload monthly data feeds from property managers into Boston/client accounting system (Great Plains)
• Prepare monthly reconciliations such as bank reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable reconciliations, and depletion reconciliations
• Prepare and enter journal entries into general ledger system
• Assist in and prepare quarterly client financial reporting, fee, distribution and performance return calculations
• Support client accounting group as needed
Other responsibilities:
• Assist with the accounting for acquisition and disposition activities
• Coordinate and assist with annual tax filings
• Preparation of ad-hoc reports for accountants and clients as needed

• 0-2+ years of experience
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, preferred
• Strong problem solving skills and attention to detail
• Proficiency in Excel
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Sound work ethic and organization skills
• Ability to meet deadlines and multi-task within a growing company
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision
Salary and title are commensurate with experience
